What was the winning bid for the 1969 365 GTB/4 on s/n 12301 at the December 6 auction?
    Thank you!

High bid was $1,250,000 iirc. Could well have been a house bid?

Very interesting car with unique features.

Thank you for that number. Interesting as before the sale I guessed 1.2mil dollars...

Considering how rare that Daytona is .... not sure why he would part with it unless something better has come along? Still this may be a good excuse to keep it now!

May have not been "real" money. Auctions have long been known or at least suspected to produce "unreal" (i.e. meaningless) results, regardless of commodity or hype ...

One subtle observation about this particular Daytona; the interior was very cramped it was difficult to get behind the wheel. Not sure if that had any effect at all on the sale. However it was what I was told, from first hand experience with this particular coupe.

The first couple of daytona coupes including 12301 have a different roofline, similar to the difference between a three louver tdf and a single louver version.

Later version daytona, which is almost the entire production have a roofline that accomodates a taller driver.

12301 had been my car I purchased it from Bill DeCarr.
I then went forward restoring this interesting Daytona with an experienced Southern CA team

The factory paint color of this particular Daytona was a curious choice for a showcar. Though it does add something to the unique character of this coupe as does vinyl for the dash covering. The blue trim on those seats really changes the look of the interior to.
You could fill a book with stories about your interesting Ferrari automobiles!

    I wouldn't describe 12301 as a showcar.
It is just the first production Daytona.
Besides that, in the late 60's the color Giallo Dino was a typical color of the flower power era.
A total of 12 (twelve) Daytona Berlinettas were originally painted Giallo Dino 20-Y-348.
And of all Daytonas ever built (all exterior colors together, not just the Giallo Dino ones) a total of 18 units originally had Blu Scuro VM 3282 interior.

Many thanks to you Marcel for taking the time to share these details regarding Daytona builds!
The Blu Scuro VM is a treat to behold >

I would observe that there was certainly a diverse selection of interesting paint colors ordered for the Daytona series back then! It is ironic that a good number of those special colors have been restored as red cars.
One of the Daytona coupes (another California restoration) that didn't suffer that fate was the USA 1972 365 GTB/4 dark grey over I think bordeaux leather. 1 of 1 in that combination???

Marcel it was 7 years ago so actually Celeste Silver not dark grey and the interior was Rosso. 1 of 1 USA delivery in that color combination and 1 of only 2 in that paint color when new. The number is 15753 but I have not seen it since then; maybe still in the USA?
Mike shared a picture of the paint progress back then >
