Hi all, I ordered a replacement headlight stalk for my E series. The one that has arrived (sold as E Series) Image Unavailable, Please Login is different to mine - it is shorter and the bend is nearer the steering column whereas my current one is bent nearer the light switch. Attached is a photo of both (sorry it's blurred, was a bit of a squeeze trying to fit down there...). Can you let me know which is right/why they are different? Slightly worried that in current configuration the new stalk will touch/come close to the indicator stalk. Car is '71 chassis 02792. Thanks

What is the source of the stalk?

That might be the problem. Send them a photo and see what they say...

I have, but I wanted some guidance as to which stalk design others have on their car

If you see this Youtube link about repairing the h'light switch, the design on this 72 Dino seems to be the same as the replacement stalk, not the one currently on my car. And yet both are E series...

Thanks very much isuk, that's really helpful. Your stalk actually looks identical to the replacement one I have received with the bend nearer the steering boss doesn't it? Maybe the one in my car isn't original

    Tonka,

Let me provide you with two additional data points. I have an M series with the Vitaloni 745 stalk which predates yours, as well as a very late Dino stalk assembly sitting in my spares box which comes after your car's production, and both have the bend nearer the steering boss. I also have reference images for over 20 different Dinos and in a random search of this library all cars I've found have the bend near the steering boss.

As with all things Dino, do not take the above as gospel. There are inevitably deviations that crop up from time to time. It looks like you may in fact have received the right part from Dino Parts. Sometimes you just have to try the part and if it works, consider it job done.

FYI Dino Parts is under relatively new management and while they have not had the best reputation previously, I think that is firmly in the past. The new owners seem serious about delivering quality products backed up by good service.

    Best Regards,
    Paul

Paul thank you very much for such a thorough reply and for the effort you have gone too. Your findings match exactly the conclusion we are coming to in that the headlight stalk I have is not the original. And I agree with you about Dino Parts.

    Thanks again

    Tim

isuk, small point but on your headlight stalk is the printed wording facing up (i.e. visible when viewed from above) or facing the floor?

Thanks isuk, sorry I was not clear, I meant the stamped writing on the metallic part of the stalk itself (manufacturer etc) - does that face up or down (or either)? I think it faces up on yours

I don't have the car here at present but yes, I do think it faces up.

For my early M-series, the Vitaloni engraving faces down towards the floor. My Euro column switch was restored by Verell, so I presume this orientation is correct.

Thanks HMB. That's one facing up and one facing down - anyone want to add the decider? Maybe it varied, can't imagine the quality control of early '70's manufacturing was too precise...
