Image Unavailable, Please Login To commemorate 30 years of dealing in classic Ferraris, Talacrest's John Collins is releasing a book, with all the profits going to charity, about the cars he has dealt in. Due for release in December. Should be interesting!!! See here: http://talacrest.com/talacrest-classic-ferrari-book/ No affiliation.
+1 for several valid reasons. I donate to charity all the time, and I stay away from anything to do with John Collins and Talacrest.
You forgot the most important one, done by Jess G. Pourret back in 1975 already: 250 GT Competition. Al the ones you posted are just based on the legendary Pourret book. Marcel Massini
Excellent. I already have that earmarked on Amazon. Anything else that you would recommend? Thanks, Rob Manchester
Are any of you familiar with Ferrari 70 Years by Dennis Alder or do you have a copy? Do any of you guys know Dennis? I'm trying to track down a 328 GTB shown in the book. Thanks, -F Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I don't know Mr. Adler, but I have a copy. I wish it had more original "period" photos, but the photos and text by the author are excellent. I don't know about the 328s shown. Copley has a superb 328GTB available in Prunga right now.
I always wondered if different editions of this book were published. Are The Ferrari Legend: 250GT Competition published by John Barnes in 1977 and Ferrari 250GT Competition Cars published by Haynes in 1987 the same book?
One more along with the Jess G. Pourret GTO book already mentioned. Also a pre GTO book on the 250 GT Sperimetale #2643 wich is rather nice. Image Unavailable, Please Login
There are at least 4 different editions of the Jess G. Pourret book in various languages, French, English, German, one was done by German Motorbuch Verlag of Stuttgart. All editions were constantly upgraded and improved and enhanced with additional photos. Then there are also the various 250 GTO books covering the various anniversaries and reunions. Marcel Massini
Marcel was there no TOFM issue after #35 this year? Is the January 2018 arrival of the 2017 Yearbook the next one published? You always share the cover picture with us for each new edition of TOFM as it is published...
That looks like the big Texas collection. He had half a dozen or more Ferrari F40 models and 35 Testarossa models? He also liked Corvettes plus old American cars to, a major collector. The GTB (he had several) was noted at the time as being a bit rare as many wanted the GTS edition instead. He also had a nice silver Ferrari Daytona Spyder as I recall. The cars could be anywhere now as he is long gone and his name escapes me at the moment. I think he was the guy who said 'he never saw a Brinks truck in a funeral procession'.
Perhaps John O'Quinn? http://www.oldcarsweekly.com/news/auction-news/john_oquinn_car_collection_liquidation
No this guy owned a bunch of shopping plaza businesses. Ferrari and Corvette were his favourites but he also dabbled in the old classic cars. Big Tex would know!
The collector with that red 328 GTB was Jerry J. Moore of Hunters Creek Village in Texas. He could park 26 cars in the garage at his house there....
Can you tell me more? I am not familiar with the big Texas collection. As an aside, I have a contact for the author and plan to contact him directly. -F
He collected Ferrari and Corvette because he felt they held there value. He liked the Ferrari F40 and wanted to buy a dozen of them. He had 35 Testarossa models and other versions like the 328 as well. He also enjoyed old American cars from the 30's and up. There was talk of a car museum but I don't know if that was ever built. He died in 2008 and I am not aware of what happened to his car collection. Maybe someone else can comment further. The author may be able to help so that could be useful to but the collection was likely sold off. One of his son's may have kept some cars but that is purely a guess. Let us know what you find out!
Her Indoors is pestering me for some ideas as to what I want for Christmas. A 246GTS to go with my GT would be nice, but as that is probably a bit beyond her budget (!), does anyone have any suggestions by way of books?
As per your suggestion . . . . . And, as it turns out, it's signed by Pourret in violet ink! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dear book fellow collectors, Because of a shift of interest, I intend to sell my Ferrari books. My rarest one surely is The Sales Drive from Maranello "30 Anni Edition" - #28/30. I think the price when new was GBP 750, plus shipping. Any idea on how much the value could be nowadays? I´m not sure if I should put it on Ebay, or offer it through other channels - still in doubt... Thanks for your opinions! Lars
