My wife and I are expecting our baby boy in Christmas time. We came up with many names and now down to 2, Stanley and Jayden. Which one do you guys like better?

From my research, Stanley is a very old name, and people think it’s a name for old men. Jayden is pretty new and popular in these days, which is not necessary a good thing.

You're coming to a bunch of car guys for suggestions about a name? Oh, well.....

I would not inflict the name "Stanley" on a child born in 2017; maybe born in 1917, but not 2017.

If the boy turns out to be a "gear head," then Stanley might be appropriate (a la Stanley Steamer). But as VGM911 implies, that name peaked in the early 20th century along with steam cars.

Guaranteed to grow up to be a super villain bent on world domination. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing.

Dare I suggest either Thomas or Enzo?

Most importantly, congratulations on your impending blessing.

    Congratulations!

Now I guess I will never understand why someone would ask a bunch of strangers on the internet what to name their kid. Seems crazy to me. In that case the name should be something like Job, Gate or Zuck come to mind.

Spicedriver, down boy! I think the OP was merely asking for what preference we had between the 2 names - Stanley or Jayden. I don't think he was looking for us to suggest a bunch of other names. :)

P.S. Your enthusiasm, however, is commendable.

Agree! My observation is that either name could/might be shortened for everyday use- Stan or Jay and leave the formal name for the Birth Certificate. Also, it was not clear if the choice was necessarily for a middle name rather than a first name that one naturally assumes. As you implied, there are baby books that could suggest thousands of other names.

Haha..it’s nice to get unbiased opinion from strangers. We love both names. Jayden is pretty modern, but it gets pretty popular in these days. I know a lot of people named Jay as well. Stanley is pretty old man, but as some people suggested it may sounds too old for a kid that both in 2017.

Jayden is indeed a popular name right now, so if that bothers you I wouldn't go for that.

Stanley is definitely an old man's name but you could call him Stan (as his friends likely will) or just go by his middle name.

Keep in mind as well, kids are great at turning names into something else. Replace the first "R" in Ragnar with "F" and you will have a nickname that will last for years.
