With winter months ahead, I thought I'd post up some shots of a my restoration that I'm about to make a start on. Im not going mad with this like I have my others, but more a refresh of all suspension and engine to the best I can without removal, although watch this space! Sorry about the way photos have uploaded, I can't seem to get them embedded with the new forum format

Most of the front suspension out and ready for refurb. I'll do one side at a time to try and keep things in order

One thing I did notice was the shock leaking. I stripped it down to find a few rubber washers perished. It would be a shame to waste the shock so does anyone know if these rubber washers are available. The Shock is a Koni 82T 1824

Will not be very helpful, but I have read here that many have refurbished their shocks (or have had them done), so I think you'll find what you need!
Maybe have a look via the "search" fonction... Good luck

Best of luck! Havn't been to Devon since 88' almost got our butts kicked playing some heated 8 ball visiting with the local girls. We were visiting a friend who was learning how to build guitars from a local craftsman. Hope you have a productive winter. Thanks for the memories.

    Ha...not much has changed since!

I've cleaned up the suspension arms back to their original aluminium, just need to get the bushes out...deep joy!

I' m debating whether to leave the parts alone in the aluminium finish or to powder coat.

I could be mistaken, but if pictured components are similar to ones found on other same period Ferrari suspensions, they are not aluminum, but steel and original finishes were likely cadmium plating, some pieces in Yellow (a.k.a. Gold) and some in White (a.k.a. Silver or Clear).

Interesting. I think I might have to powder coat them to protect.

When i started cleaning all of the grease and crud off of mine, the finish had a gold tint. I started being more careful so as to not remove the finish.

    Alot of elbow grease.

With regards the calipers, I have the 42mm pistons so Im guessing this could give me a few problems?

    Good day,
Wow... you are making some excellent progress! I especially like your front lights. Did you buy replacement lenses or did you reuse your originals?
Keep it up and you will be finished in no time!
    Cheers,
    Sam

The lenses were actually both ok, it was just the aluminium case on the driver's side which had failed and at +£1000 for new units, I thought I'd take punt!

Didn't take long to get the original paint off as it mostly just lifted and peeled from the aluminium finish. Used a decent enamel white paint which came up very well.

Just found out that my Koni's will be another month back from servicing, so thought I'd make a start on the rear end. Im actually pleasantly surprised that the structure of the car is in really good condition, except to the small area of rot to the front inner wing, there is little in the way of even surface corrosion elsewhere.

Some more parts ready for re-bushing. Decided to go with powder coating the forks at the rear, plating is such a PITA and the results a little hit and miss.

Although Im not a great fan of underbody seal, I thought they used it originally so in keeping Ive re-applied using a 3M product. It looks very shiny in the photo but the results are actually quite good. The chassis etc will be finished in satin black paint.

Interesting to note when removing the bushes, the wrong top bush had previously been installed in the traditional Koni damper. This would have resulted in shock rattling around in the 'through' bolt! :( The left hand one is the one removed from the top self leveller for which both should be the same.

    Good day,

You are indeed making excellent progress, well done!

If I may ask, where did you end up buying the suspension bushings, etc?

    Cheers,

    Sam

Hi Sam - All from Superformance, and I went for the hardended ones on recommendation.

However I now need to order 3 More flamblocks. Why they make these cars different from any other Ferraris. I didn't realise until everything was assembled and offered up the hub, that there are spacers fitted under the flamblocks. They weren't obvious when the old ones were removed as the dirt and corrosion just blended into one, however luckily I did manage to retrieve them from the bin :)

In the process of removing the flamblocks to install the spacers, Ive managed to damage three! :(

Lessons for others here who might decide to tackle their suspension
