Have we reached a point where people will begin to lose interest in F1 due to start line crashes? Of course the standing start has been a feature of the sport since day one, but now, with wider cars and increasing speeds, is it time to consider rolling starts behind the safety car? I'm just throwing this out there for discussion.

I think not. Its a unique feature and I like it and hope to never see that change.

Rolling starts only if the whole field are on full wets.

I love it and also F1 drivers are worse than your Regional SCCA drivers when it comes to rolling restarts, rolling starts would really be messed up!

I would propose rolling starts on full wets. An alternative proposal would be to stage the cars further apart from each other when you have standing starts on full wets.

No, I think it's time to worry about more passing, less parading.

Everyone hates Charlie Whiting when wet races start behind a safety car but then the Ferraris take each other out and all of the sudden all wet races should be started behind a safety car according to this forum. lol

Come on, this is pretty much the first time I've heard people complain about the standing start, and it must be because the Ferraris crashed out (which, imo, had next to nothing to do with the weather). I'm as big a Ferrari fan as anyone but standing starts are one of the most exciting things in all of racing.

Especially with the current aero regs the start is by far the most entertaining.

Standing start has always defined F1, and separated it from other racing classes. Except of the course the run to your car days of Le Mans...

F1 without standings would be, well, not F1.

No, it's not. The fact that Ferrari is too dumb to figure it out doesnt mean we need to get rid of it

In this instance Monza 1990 Warwick came out of his crashed car and ran back to the pits for his spare knowing there would be a restart...same happened at Monaco years ago when several drivers had a pile up at the Loews hairpin...and ran through the tunnel back to the pits helmets on for their spares:)

So no to rolling starts and yes to spares/T cars:)

More importantly the current high cockpit sides, generated by the 1990's crashes, which keep driver's heads safe also hamper lateral vision which is what is causing start crashes such as at Spa last year and yesterday...but there is not much thinking going on about flaws in safety changes at the FIA level once they are actually implemented because the decision process is too slow and heavy....

+1. What next on grounds of H&S - virtual Grands Prix?

Perhaps they should re-introduce the concept of the Le Mans start. That would sort out the men from the boys.
