I don't think there's a single color that these cars don't look good in, but this one is especially stunning in black! I've always been a fan of the 400i, but I was scared away when their prices were still in the "affordable/cheap" range by the potential absorption of "deferred maintenance" on a 12-cyl Ferrari. A well-sorted example such as this should continue to bring strong money... Best of luck with the sale! Gorgeous car.

Having been the proud owner of a 400i and loved the car inside and out,you will not find a better hi speed road car. I did notice a couple of things. When mine was imported to the US the Feds required several things, horizontal door bracing, DOT approved glass, and a MPH speedo. I noticed on this car still has a KPH speedo, and Italian glass.

I was unable to license mine until it was DOT'd. I wonder how this car was able to be licensed and titled in the US as it is? Maybe the laws have changed since mine, just asking?

When did you import your 400i ? It is not too difficult to import a 400i over now as they are all well over 25 years old.

"A motor vehicle that is at least 25 years old can be lawfully imported into the U.S. without regard to whether it complies with all applicable DOT Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS). Such a vehicle would be entered under Box 1 on the HS-7Declaration form to be given to Customs at the time of importation."

    tro0768,

Hello. This car was actually imported into the US in 1983 and has been in the country its whole life. I cant tell you why it still has its original speedometer, but clearly that was worked out back then. when I purchased the car it had a clear Arizona Title and I then titled the car in New Jersey without any issue. tfazio, is also right however, anything that is 25 years or older is now considered to be a classic or antique and can easily be brought into the country as he mentioned above. I hope that helps.

Importers often followed a different roadmap when submitting a car for DOT/EPA approval (before 1986), to release the car into the U.S.

Quite often, Importer A performed different work from Importer B.
