    Hello,

When I look at used cars on mobile.de in Germany if it is a dealer they normally give two prices, Gross and Net. Net is what you pay if you are exporting from EU. To get net on German cars if not listed you divide Gross by 1.19.

Does anyone here know whether French used cars from dealers are quoted the same way and what you need to divide by?

    Merci

    Bonjour,

    Merci

    Salut !

In France, my Frriends correct me if I'm wrong, only company owned cars or owned / financed in Leasing and other forms of this kind have claimable VAT ("avec TVA apparente", in French).

So, many less cars eligible than in Germany where the culture is different. And the taxes too.

Exception : any new French private owned car is VAT claimable for the 1st 6 months only.

Indeed, on most used cars in France one cannot claim the VAT (btw, the rate is 20% in France, instead of 19% in Germany).
If you buy a car in Germany to export it to another EU country, you can purchase it "net" (without the German VAT) and then you are supposed to pay the VAT in the destination country (at the local rate); if you buy in France you typically cannot get a net price and then if you export to another EU country you do not pay the local VAT (which also means you cannot have any way to use any tax benefit you may get from paying a local VAT).

Talking USED cars...in UK,the dealer pays VAT (20%) on the difference between what he bought it for,and what he sold it for. If he spent say £500 preparing it for sale, then too bad,he still has to pay the tax. The client does not pay any VAT. Now in France,we don't care how the taxation system works, all second hand vehicles in this country are unbelievably overpriced,so if you want LHD,Europe is your market,if you are happy to have a RHD,bought in UK,you will probably save best part of 50%. Job done !

Even in Germany, you only can buy "Netto" IF, and only IF, the VAT is claimable. Sorry.

If the car was bought by a Private, it's generally not claimable, such as in France.

It's nothing to see w/ the topic.

    It's the same thing everywhere.

In France we call it "TVA sur la marge" = VAT on profit.
