My last car had Mk2's and Capristo brackets. The manifolds failed at 25k miles. I do not for how long the brackets were fitted before I purchased the car.

Thanks for sharing your experience Mark.

It's interesting to hear that even the Mark 2's do fail....

    Question please:
Was the header failure due to crack on the welds?
Or the Pre-Cat's started to disintegrate?

    Thanks in advance.

    Dan

Seems like that crack is caused by long-term vibration. Also engine movement has contributed.

    Pictures worth a thousand words.
Thank you for sharing photos Mark!

It appears on the F430 the exhaust manifolds crack due to vibration (no give / play)

On the 360's it appears the reported issues are Pre Cat disintegrating.

    Interesting....

I,ve been chasing cel since i bought it so i can't say that was a precursor. Anyway when the manifolds went it was the precat in my drivers side manifold and it was not pretty. set me back about 5k with the cost of fabspeed race headers. I also did test pipes and a mase tune. It's almost done and I'm real excited to finally hear it.

How bout the difference between f430 and scud. I have read the scud is less prone to failure. Can anyone comment on this? Thanks.

Scuderia doesn't have pre-cats, but crucially neither the fixed brackets at the rear of the main cats.

I think the F430 system would fare as well with the cat brackets removed.

I have a 2007 F430 F1 coupe with 11,700 miles. I bought the car last winter with 10,100 and the original headers had cracked and were replaced with OEM already. I put on Capristo brackets and left it all OEM. The neighbors appreciate the stock exhaust, and it's plenty loud on full throttle freeway on ramps.
@dvb247 - thanks for the info on the fix. I'll file that for reference.

I changed to capristo brackets last year. I replaced 5 broken stock brackets. Enough already. No problems so far.

Thanks for sharing info Poseur and Mr. Anderson.

    Question:

Does anybody else make after market exhaust brackets besides Capristo?

$550 seems steep.....I might as well get the Kline Innovation Complete exhaust system.

    I just purchased a 2006 F430 Spider with 26K miles.

PPI results showed headers are cracked and so as the exhaust brackets. As expected....

    Enough of that weak design.

I ordered Agency Power headers and Kline Innovation Valved Exhaust.
Will replace them both soon so I wont have to worry about them cracking ever again.

Yes, I spoke extensively with the technical director at Ferrari of Seattle before my purchase of a 430 Scuderia. He said the only issues they see with the Scuderia and 16M is the mounting flange of the exhaust manifolds warping. The result is a ticking noise at cold start, and results in a exhaust leak. It also can stretch the mounting studs, and in some cases break them. During the warranty period, FNA authorized replacement of the exhaust manifolds with new, along with new studs (since they may have stretched or broken) as well as new gaskets. The only issue is the new manifolds are likely to experience the same problem all over again (and have!). Ferrari of Seattle now repairs the manifolds by having the flange ground flat. Again, new studs and gaskets and so far, they claim they have never had a Scuderia or 16M come back with an exhaust manifold leak.

Mine failed at 8k I think. The previous owner put on capristo headers and exhaust brackets at 13k. The headers make the car sound so bad ass I almost don't even want an exhaust.

Got CEL on 2003 spider at 44000 miles, OEM exhaust header was cracked, could clearly hear leak on cold start. my independent shop removed header and shield, welded the crack, and replaced shield, so far no return of the CEL, cost about a grand all in

Mine were replaced before I got the car in 2012 with Mkii. Then one side failed in 2016 and I replaced with aftermarket (top speed) headers. Have put 3k on them and they are great! Left rest of exhaust stock and has an amazing sound.

+1 very happy as well with the top speed headers. Sounds amazing as well with the full stock exhaust.

A bit late to the party, but recently my buddy's car was in to get a new clutch, and quickly the tech determined the headers were severely "cracked" although a GIANT HOLE is a more appropriate description. He's lucky as heck that no metal fragments were sucked back in to the cylinders.

Also of note, beyond sound changes, discoloration of the heat shields, and sometimes the white insulation being blown out from the headers, the best and most reliable way to test for cracks is a smoke test. And if you have Ferrari replace them with more Ferrari manifolds, you're eventually going to run into the same problem. Switch to aftermarket headers if you can while having them replaced.

My car has 16,600 miles with MK2.... I’m always paranoid about the manifolds. I asked Kevin Enderby who has a 2006, one off , Mariner Blu F430 with over 150k miles on it. He has replaced the manifolds 6-7 times (can’t remember if he said 6 or 7). He states just wait till they break and then replace them. I know there is gonna be some disagreement about this, but I kinda felt a bit more relaxed hearing that. What’s the incidence of having metal get sucked in and ruining the engine. We hear a lot about manifolds breaking , but not much on engine damage. Can someone please give some statistics.

    I guess I dont understand.............

    It's like:
My water heater broke after 5 years and its no longer covered by warranty. Sucks.
Do they make better ones? Yes, they do. Better designed and last longer. Much cheaper too.
Nah, I'll stick with the same one and order the same one.
    Why??????????????????
Didnt you learn the first time?

    How about:
I have an employee, he's failed me 6 or 7 times & he cost me a lot of money, anguish & frustrations.
    Did you fire him?
No, he still works for me.
    Why??????????????????????

My OE Clutch release bearing failed on me after only 16K miles.
Remove and replace TOB cost $7,800.00. Ouch!
Do they make better ones and lasts longer? Yes, Hill Engineering does.
Then no more OE Clutch TOB for me. Hill Engineering it is.

    I learn quick.
I dont let someone or something hurt me and I turn around and say hurt me again.
Especially if I have better options.

    My 2.5 cents.
