My Friend Glenn has restored his 1970 246L Dino.. He will be showing it this weekend at Greenwich Concours.. As I looked through the picture album, my thoughts about an original wood steering wheel came to question.. To All the deep Dino Historians...Is this wheel correct...was it and when did it switch?? While you are at it..check out the rest of the Pictures and give opinions on whats correct and whats not.. Do you see any obvious deductions..?? the trunk and engine bay were restored after these pics Just a beautiful car.. Enjoy! Looks like a great car, congratulations to your friend. Many hard to find parts are there too. It's a bit hard to see everything in photos but a few things.. - the ignition in the interior photos is there on the rhs, not sure what the switch you mentioned is for. - the front indicator lights should be clear, only certain rhd coutries had orange lenses IIRC. Do you know which country it was delivered - the steering wheel should be the smaller momo type with dark learher and yellow horn button 370mm diameter, only early L-series had the 380mm wooden steering wheel (this car is late L-series). - hard to tell in photo but sunvisors should be off white vinyl. - cam covers should be a bronze-olive color as original cam covers were magnesium, same for alt pulley and cam end caps, distrubutor spacer (wrinkle was not on any dino...) - some hoses and clamps maybe, cannot tell without close up shots
Mine (number 908) had hex hub spinners and a hex wrench with lead hammer to remove them. Also white flush mounted turn signal indicators in the front. Mine did have the passenger foot rest in the front as this one does. But it did have a single white back up light in the center of the car mounted to the body, not the bumpers. And I'm quite sure my ignition key was on the right side, not the left.
Few more... Radiator cap should be 2 ear type I'm not a fan of the logos on the floor mats. The airbox is great, 3 dimple type lid very rare and often missing. Is this car running it's dinoplex still?
Hex spinners were a replacement as per one of the factory SAT sheets, this car has it's correct original curved spinners. Back up lights on this car are correct, yours might have been removed/replaced if the bumpers were changed to the later type.
My originals (AFAIK) were orange. LHD '72, originally delivered to Lebanon. Because I have heard clear vs. orange before, I have paid a lot of attention to vintage pictures, and have seen plenty of orange light, LHD cars.
You might be right, I have the lighting schedule so I'll dig it out and check when we know the country of delivery. Dinoregister says this was likely sold by Swaters so I'm placing a bet on clear...
and the most obvious one on the interior... the upper doors panels, upper back wall panel, headrests and B-pillar cover have been always originally in black vinyl, on all L-series.... Image Unavailable, Please Login
The small round front fender lights seem to be missing the thin chrome rings and rubber gaskets; my small contribution to the nitpicking Notwithstanding the items pointed out by others, a really nice Dino in gorgeous colours. Plus the original Foredit switch looks to be complete and functional. I could count on one hand the number of times I've seen that! Best Regards, Paul
Also the white front indicator rubber seals seems to be absent. Maybe wrong rubber padding on the carpets in the foot wells....just to continue the nitpicking. All in all a fantastic nice car though. Best Peter
Great Comments here! Thanks.. I asked Glenn.. He states the car was delivered to Belgium new.. also here is updated engine bay pic.
Then Swaters makes sense in Belgium. Cam covers look much better (we could argue about the shade but looks nice...)
I saw this (before the rain) - a lovely car. I noticed that maybe (unique to this year) the door lock for the keys are in the cove of the door vs lower . I think this must be an early model detail. the 246 gts chairs & flairs that was next to it had the locks lower in the doors. It was a super car...congrats!!
206 & L series cars have the locks in the coves (there are some M series also but this is a rare exception) Congratulations on the result
