Back when you were in high school, what car did you dream about owning? I went to high school in the mid-1970's, for me, it was the 1970 Plymouth 'Cuda with a hemi engine. . Image Unavailable, Please Login
I was a Fast n Furious era HS kid I wanted a Acura Integra Type R (unrealistic) or GSR (more realistic) but still was flat broke. Settled for a 1991 Saab 900S in 2002 as my first car (No Turbo, 4 door....waaaahnwahnnnn)
If you mean a car that was contemporary with my high school years.....Cobra 289 one day, split window Corvette the next, 250SWB the day after that. Truly a golden age for cars.
Graduated in '79. For a currently on sale car (at that time) it was an RX-7. For a possibly attainable car, is was a 455 SD Trans Am. For the unobtainable it was a '67 427 vette. I wasn't really well aware of exotic cars then. It most certainly was not the '72 Pinto I was driving (and would drive through all of college, and all of med school).
1980 most cars were crap. Of those in production a 6.6 TRANS AM, Countach, Boxer, 928, 930 there really was nothing else. Of the older cars it was a daytona. Subsequently had a couNtach, looked great, but was a concept caR thAt ran. Still have a boxer, tried a 928 it was underhewlming, never driven a 930 but aircooled porches just dont gell for me. Did have a 1980 z28, built like crap and the motor blew, but it was great charismatic car. Never even ridden in a daytona. Oh yeak an Astan vantage V8 from 1980, nevr drove one of those either, did drive a 1980 us spec amv8 it was heavy and slow. Happy to say a bb was unobtanium when I was a kid, never thought I would actualy own one, and its a keeper. Wanted to marry a hot red head and did that too.
I used to watch this car drive down the highway behind our high school when it was brand new. Ten years later it was mine. Still has original paint and never been apart after all these years... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
For me it was a 67 corvette 427 , I did purchase a 1972 corvette by the time i was 21 while still in college. The 67 corvette 427 came later and i still have it.

Lusso.....Dad said NO to my request for him to purchase one down at the local import store in the late 70's for $17K.
Dino 246. Even back then, they were way outside my price range. Back in the day, i had to pass on a well worn example for $9500 ask. Yup, that's not a typo. I could barely scrape together 10% of the ask - and this was just after college let alone high school. In high school, my ultimate dream car was a 512BB while my "sort of within reach" dream car was a gen 1 Camaro Z28. At the time, I drove a '67 Chevy Caprice sedan that I bought from my neighbor for $400, and sold 3 yrs later for $400. I still like those old Z28's, just not enough to buy one.
Bandit ('77-'78) Trans Am and an f355. I graduated in '96, so the Trans Am was the car I had always wanted since I was a kid (after watching Smokey and the Bandit a few hundred times) and the f355 was the new hot thing taking over from the Testarossa as the Ferrari I wanted. Bought the Trans Am in college when they were dirt cheap and had it for 10 years, including a full resto, and wish I never had sold it. I have the f355 now and have had it for 5 years and never plan to sell it.
Well done! For me, the cars I'd always lusted after were the Shelby Cobra and Mustang. In HS I had a ranger. Was happy with it, but I wanted a jeep. The rest of the normal cars were kinda bland. I did want a Viper in 2002 though. Didn't really find exotics exciting until after school. Got blown away by an F50 and a Mercedes CLK-GTR being followed by some other Ferraris and Porsches. The sound of those has never faded.
My first car was a 67 Mustang back in high school. i was the second owner with only 50K miles. Amazing to think back on my good fortune! Had a 68 Shelby GT500 shortly after that. The seller also had a 289 Cobra with Webers that he offered me - for $25K at the time! A 70 GT500 convertible was next, then a 66 GT350 with some race history. The Pantera showed up somewhere in the middle of it all. Kept the Pantera - sold the Shelbys...
When I was in highschool, I was into big luxury sedans. My dream car was a Mercedes S-class or an Audi A8. In the years that followed I owned an Audi A6 and 2 MB's C-class (still have a C). One day i will own a huge extended s-class
In 1974 I had the chance to have a ride in one of the three 1973 world rally championship winning ALPINE A110's and wanted one ever since. Image Unavailable, Please Login
had 2 of those. looking back through 2017 lenses, those were pretty crude cars.........but at the time they were very cool
