I think Porsche makes a more money on the GT3 than Ferrari does on the 488...

I think the average profitability for a Porsche vehicle is close to $20k, they average about $17k of profit on an average $100k of revenue, call it 20% round numbers - other German brands are closer to 5%

Ferrari on the other hand makes about a 25% profit but that's after they include sponsorship and merchandizing in the mix... without it they may even lose money with each car...

    but I'm guessing here

anyone know details on this, it's an interesting topic as the Ferrari exclusivity and brand equity value is largely tied to the racing program and the extras they sell outside vehicles...

Ferrari's are special cars, but are no where in the same universe as Porsche in ease of ownership, and longevity of engineering. The two cars really can't be compared. Having owned a GT3 I agree that for the street you'll never approach the limits. It's an amazing piece of machinery, that doesn't need a $25k service every two years, if ever. A 911 is simply the most robust sports car ever built. Just ask Mr. Ferrari who stated that when it comes to endurance racing they simply couldn't compare, now F1 records are another thing. Having owned both cars, you really need both to scratch all the itches, in my opinion.

Looking into this further, 3/4 of Ferrari revenue comes from cars, 25% comes from selling engines, F1 sponsors and merchandizing ... this 25% has huge margins, so i would venture to say that car for car Porsche is a lot more profitable... not that it matters :) just interesting ...

I was simply stating that just because a 2017 911 GT3 is just as fast/faster than a 2010 458 doesn't meant that it took Porsche 7 years to catch up. The cars are in a different category and can't be compared evenly. I believe Porsche was/is still working on a 488 competitor to be slotted between the 911 Turbo and the 918.

Although i'm a Ferrari man, my favourite racing car of all time is the Porsche 917. Nothing like it before or since.

If they do that it will cost 2x that of the 488 and be limited to previous 918 owners.

They are running out of "previous 918 owners" with probably more then half of them already being removed from Vip list for speculating.

Very interesting that there are far more Porsche people on Ferrari Chat than you would
find Ferrai people on Rennlist or 6 Speed Forums.
I traded a 2014 Porsche 911 Cabriolet for a 2013 California. Then, traded th California for
    A 2015 GT3. Traded the GT3 last week for a 2013 458 Italia. They are both GREAT
cars built for far different purposes. They both do what they were built for very well.

My 2015 GT3 vs my wife's 2013 458 Spider both using Launch Control?
She pulls away from me 4 out of 5 times.

My very first exotic was a 1986 930 slant nose. My 2nd was a 1990 348ts. Since then I have always loved both makes and have had many of each. They're each great, but for different reasons. One is not better than the other.

From articles I've read they were aiming for 200-250k starting price.

I had a 911 years ago and liked it but honestly have no desire to get back in one. Driving a newer one might change my mind but to me the main issue is they're so common and not that special anymore. However, they're still great cars which is why they're selling so well.

the gt3 does everything so well it's amazing... the grip levels are out of this world, the 458 is a lot more all over the place when driven hard compared to the gt3...

btw as much as automakers love to beat on VIP flippers, they must love them as they 1) create an early market 2) create more brand awareness when they flip as they flip for a huge premium to MSRP... this all drives brand value higher, scarcity, uniqueness etc...

I've had 993s, 996s, 991s and even a 968, loved them all and would buy another Porsche in a heartbeat BUT none of them ever felt special like a Ferrari. I can't wait to drive my 430, it is a blast every single time. I am now considering a 17' Panamera Turbo or 14' FF as DD. To me, the Porsche is the great DD.

I have had a '12 FF as DD, I would go with a Panamera Turbo

The FF is much more special but not nearly as practical as the Panamera, and dealing with FNA leaves a lot to be desired

Images turned up in the last few days showing a 991.2 GT3 manual without a wing and w/ backseats. Unless you're a hardcore collector, probably best to wait for the dust to settle.
