I feel that $50k is a very fair price for a decent car, given recent market action. The problem is to get a car to a nice level 2, most owners have $70K plus into them, so I don't blame them for wanting $75-100K for them. As a seller they don't want to lose their butts, and as a buyer I don't want to over pay. It's the ole 911 T conversation. It costs just as much to restore a T as an S, but the S is worth 2-3 times the amount.

Buyers tend to focus on price while sellers think in terms of value,

There are cars that have 70k in them that are going for 50k. It will be a #3 or 4 car, You will still need to put money into it.

I think OP is clear he wants a solid 2 car for 50k, not a 3/4...I think theren lies the conundrum... My solution was to go up a bit to 60K, I truly believe that's much more realistic.

Life is short death is long! Go for it!
    Again just my humble opinion.

    Your short for a #2 car, $70 - 80k.

agreed, but 60K is definitely much closer then 50K! He might catch a lucky break...or a seller looking for a fast sale...probably helps to have it all 60K all cash ready to go.

    Be well.

Guygowrie has had his clean driver car up for sale for $49K for some months on this forum as well as Ebay with no takers. During this time, in my search for a project car to make a street rod with (now satisfied by a 288 clone project that Norwood is sorting for me) I have watched a nice black car sell at $40K, a couple of complete project cars sell in the $20s (Byron's car and one other on Ebay), and a couple of red cars offered in the low $40s on Craigslist. Oh, and a very sorted track car with a 348 motor at $40K in Montreal unsold. Driver all but advertised his car here for $30K. There is nothing not to like about these cars, I had one myself for some years and enjoyed driving and working on it, even if the styling is not to everyone's taste. But it's not a 246 and never will be. The relevant comparison is the Mondial.

"...But it's not a 246 and never will be. The relevant comparison is the Mondial."

Are you expecting the Mondial to double or triple in value over the next 10 years? If so, I think your comparison is spot on... under appreciated for decades, and then interest builds when it became the only obtainable carb'd Ferrari. But, this doesn't mean that it won't follow a similar trajectory to the 246. Conversely it doesn't mean that it will either! 4 seat Ferrari's do NOT value like their 2 seat cousins. But when it comes right down to it, the GT4 is the only option for a carb'd Ferrari coupe (regardless of the 2+2 configuration) that the mortal man can purchase! And, because of the success of the 246, the Dino badge and name is now treasured, instead of scorned.

    IMHO.

There's a long posting here about one in the midwest someplace that was unwittingly inherited by a woman in Texas who has no use for it .. but there is also a buyer on the forum who has been after the car for a while .. I think the problem is they are far apart. "Barn Find" or something like that. Quite a saga. There's also a very clean black one on Ebay in TN (not Elvis' unfortunately) that seems like about as good a driver as you are going to find.
