The Maserati Shamal is up for sale. 1992 - US import eligible Chassis number 224 82 000 kilometres It is an unmolested vehicle, all original. Service history from 92 until 2005 in Switzerland, imported to Warsaw, Poland in 2006, full ownership and some service history in the past 9 years also provided. Everything works fine on this car mind the casual electric glitches of biturbos from that time (see my thread about opening the fuel door) but this is something every biturbo owner lives with. It was profesionnally resprayed in 2006 in its original colour and it gives around 200um on the whole car. In the past 6 years the car was serviced at 2 independent workshops specialised in Maseratis and Ferraris from the 80-90s, mechanically very sound, shall I add the car is scary fast, and crazier than a 930 Turbo 4-speed for example. No rust, no bad surprises. It is a hell of a car, unique in its genre, built around the short biturbo chassis, with a 6 speed getrag, the ultimate 3,2 liter powerhouse from Maserati and an AC panel that Italian car aficionados have likely seen also in a Lamborghini Diablo. Price is 75 000 Euros O.B.O. - I am open to offers, and provide assistance for exportation also overseas. No offense Pav, this is just a friendly Public Service Announcement for our fellow F-Chatters..... Do be advised folks in the States --- Yes, you can legally import these cars now, but you cannot register them to drive on public roads. So, they are not "street legal" here. I attempted to do this a while back with a Ghibli GT (very similar car and same build era) --- and it was no way. That said, a Shamal is one helluva fantastic Maser just to have in your collection.....even if you do have to go to the track to exercise it. .
What is the issue with regard to them not being street-legal in the US? Can they be (reasonably) modded to become street-legal?
Absolutely and 100% incorrect. You can legally import these cars AND you can register and insure them AND you can drive them. Now, the key is that if it's 25 years old or more. 25 years old or more, the process is easy. Now, keep in mind this goes by PRODUCTION DATE and not model year. So if your car has a production date of May 1992, then you must wait until MAY 2017 to import--and better yet if the car hits the port in June 2017. Etc. If this "1992" Maser has a production date of October 1992, then it won't be eligible for import until October 1992. Etc... But what you wrote above about being able to import but not register and drive it patently false.....
Pretty cool car. To be honest, I was going to hate until I did a little reading on this car. 321hp/320tq in 1992 in a little coupe like this with a getrag 6 speed manual transmission...that's impressive!
