I am taking my M for an annual service and MOT (UK annual roadworthiness test) next week. Prior to reading Elsi's post on gearbox failure I was just going to ask for engine oil and filters change. I will add gearbox oil to the list. What else? Brake fluid? Plugs? Last major was 2.5 years ago with all the above plus cam belts etc. Engine oil and filters a year ago.

engine oil and filter, gearbox oil and for safety brakefluid once a year
coolant in my eye need not to be changed so often, so every major service should be fine ( except you loose coolant and have to fill up sometimes and use only water )
check tire pressure ( also spare wheel )
open airfilter housings to see how dirty they are, may be use some pressured air to clean
fill up windshield washer water ( right name ? )
lube or grease the door hinges and locks, also the locks from the front hood and rear bonnet
    check all lights
    make testdrive and enjoy :)

    Thank you, Fred and Romano.

Definitely always fun taking the 'scenic route' home after the service, yes.

I always mix a new bottle of coolant 50/50 with distilled water, Only use it to top off my coolant. I never just add water!
