How many times do people ask you to rev it and use the hand gesture

In Vegas I even got a request to rev it from 2 cops in a squad car -- followed by 2 "thumbs up".

 

You sure ask a lot of 'how many times' questions

EVERY driving day !

 

I sometimes have cops at lights pretend they want to race...rev their engine and grin.

 

Seriously never even once.

 

Never kept track, but I hate when people fly up on my tail or beside me to take video or pics. Great way to crash into me and damage the car....

 

I had 2 cops who pulled me into a line of cars whose drivers were being given random breath tests (at 11am on Saturday morning, for heaven's sake) chat with me for a few minutes about the engine and its performance. Then when the woman in the line ahead of me wasn't moving, they moved out of my way a couple of (what we call) witches hats and then said to me "Go on, just make some noise!". I replied "You guys have got to be joking. As soon as I do that, one of your mates will pull out on his bike behind me and then book me!" They smiled and said "No way! But just make that noise up to the speed limit!" They were both nice guys, so I happily obliged and then waved as I drove off. The waved back and gave me a thumbs up!

Was approaching a yellow light at night, accelerated enough to clear it.....and open the valves on the CS exhaust....cop on the cross street waiting for the light to change green. Comes up along side my passenger quarter, then inches up to my passenger door and motions for me to roll my window down....

Cop says, "Wanna race?" with a smile...

"Do I get a free pass??"

"Haha...no!"

"If you want to see the car, I'll pull over"

"Great, but lets be clear, I'm not pulling you over"

He then guns his Explorer around me and pulls into a gas station. Him and his ride along start looking over the car like a couple of teenagers. I tell them, I have a gun behind the passenger seat, expecting him to ask for my CCL. Instead says, "I would too if I had this car!" Next he calls his Sargent to see if he's busy. Sargent drives up and tells the officer, "A Ferrari! If you hit that car, I'll shoot you dead right here!"

Oh yea, fun times in Texas!

I'm still new to the 458 but with my 430 it happened quite frequently. I had a guy with a Prosche 911S wait at the gas pump and asked me to pull away first because he wanted to here the exhaust note.
The only guys that seem to want to race me are guys in these Subaru WRX cars. It's always them.

 

Since we're sharing police stories. Not a Ferrari story but...

A relative-in-law started seriously dating a detective. I had an unmodified GT-R at the time. He really wanted a ride in it, so we went out for a ride. At a straightaway he asked me to gun it as fast as possible through the straightaway. I obliged (not over the speed limit of course, except on the Mexico side of the border... ) The grin on his face was priceless, and he gave me a friends and family badge and card the next time I saw him.

When they broke up it broke my heart. God I miss that badge...

 

I think it's kinda nice that folks want to hear what a "real live Ferrari" sounds like. We on Fchat live in a rare bubble of privilege to own and enjoy these cars daily, but for most people, it is a really special experience to see and hear one.

As long as its safe to do so, I say "mash the pedal, let the valves open, and let people hear the scream!"

 

Be careful revving Lola because you might get a ticket for disturbing the peace.
