How much will changing the schedule due to rain affect RM? Are they the only Saturday auction? The concours has been moved up a day.

Gooding results this morning were steady and unspectacular, maybe a little light but no harm. I would say that many vendors are looking at peak prices (outliers) and that is their enticement to offer their pride and joy and yet buyers are looking for either bargains or at least good buys. That is the dichotomy of a mature market.

$11.9 for the XKSS was probably a couple of million low but a deal could have been done if the vendor was motivated.
$3.4 for the yellow LaFerrari was perhaps $500k light but again close enough for a deal
$650k for the Dino 206GT ditto.....

All examples where they could make a sale if they really wanted to, or hold and wait up to a decade for the next boom and bust market cycle. If as I suspect all of these cars have been bought years earlier, then the purchase would have been at amounts much lower, so its not like the vendor is going to lose money selling at the prices offered and if you are no longer in love with the car, take the money and buy something you do love.

Apparently is was discovered that the XKSS has a non-original engine. I don't think there were even any bidders on it.

Wrong timing here in NZ so couldn't watch more than last hour or so. I do know there is a market for XKSS in the mid teens but only for the best so if there was a non-original engine then that is the second black mark along with it being a D-Type for much of its life. Despite it being noted that the original XKSS parts were retained and refitted it cannot be afforded the same respect of a car that was never apart. So I wonder how much of Gooding claims that it is the best, most original XKSS was just auction puffery?

Watching RM feed for their sale, Fiat 8V Supersonic went to $1.25 net (1.375mil total against $1.4 - 1.6 million estimate) which was cheap but now the Bentley S1 DHC (estimate $700 - 900k) has sold at $1.54 million. I would take the Fiat any day, personal taste I guess
