    Hi Chaps

    So i think the 330 GTC was produced between 1966 - 69 https://www.borrani.com/ferrari-wheels/330-gtc.html

Currently we are all going down the 205VR14 Michelin XWX route. and i think they are great tyres, but i wonder if anyone knows what tyres a 330 GTC and GTS fitted originally. the size 205VR14 is i believe correct, but i can't find any actual clarity as to when the XWX came out. I think it may have been 66, but at the same time i have books that state 1970. and i have had someone off here saying that they had a Daytona when it first came out in 68 which definitely had the XWX tread pattern on it but was called an X not XWX so that could explain the confusion.

However, in my mind in 1964 lots of top Italian cars on 15" wheels started to fit the 205VR15 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CN72 when it came out, because i believe it was the first tyre that big to be able to get a V speed rating.

I wondered if these cars might have fitted a 205VR14 Cinturato CN12

    Does anyone know?

Photos would be great and any proof, build sheets etc would be a great help.

When I bought my 330GTC in 1984 it had a Michelin X as a spare.

Dougal, you are quite right. I cannot say that all 330GTC's were furnished with XWX's on delivery. I can say that when I bought my car that seemed to be the tire of choice. Except for my car. This was 330GTC ser #10581 manufactured in October and November 1967 and fitted, at the order of the Commendatore Enzo Ferrari, with a typ 245 4.4 liter engine, thus being the first 365GTC. The first owner was his friend Leopoldo Pirelli, CEO of his patrynomic Company. Sr Pirelli commissioned Campagnolo to create the five-star alloy wheels that soon appeared on the 365GTB4 Daytonas so they were 15" rather than the GTC's 14". As a result, when I bought the car in 1978 its 15" wheels were fitted with 205VR15 Pirelli Cinturatos. When I needed new tires, Pirelli-Armstrong, the U.S. subsidiary, gave me a set of 215VR15 Cinturatos, thus oversize by a factor of two.

A Pirelli car. A car with history like that is very cool.

The 215R15 is an interesting tyre. was that a 215/70VR15 or was it a full profile 215.

I am currently in discussions with Pirelli attempting to find out what the original rear, road tyres for a GTO were, if anyone knows what the GTO fitted on the rear for the road that would be great.

I am interested to know if the tyre size 205VR15 was ever made in the CA67 tread pattern. I think it might have been.

We currently have 215/70WR15 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CN12 | Longstone Tyres thiis tyre came out in 1971.

    Hi Tinbender

The tyres on the attachments below are Michelin X on the left and Michelin XWX on the right. However i have come across early XWX tyres that were called X back in the '60s. is that was what was on your car?

Did you have the XWX tyre but just with the name X on it. Or did you have the original X tread pattern?

The original tire in that style was the XVR.

The skinny top tire appears to be the tread of the original Michelin X; I tried a set of these when I went SCCA racing in my Triumph TR3 in the late 1950s. Bad choice as they were far too sticky, couldn't drift the car at all, the X's would hold and hold until they let go, which they did with no warning. Ultimately fitted Pirelli Stelvios that worked fine.

The 215/70VR/15's were never fitted to 330 or 365GTC's, all of which had 14" wheels, except for my old 365GTC speciale.

went searching for and found the Operating, maintenance and service handbook for the 330GTC and the small insert Ferrari added for the 365GTC. It prescribes tire pressures for "Pirelli 210 x 14 HS" tires and slightly different pressures for "Dunlop 205 HR x 14 SP". For whatever that is worth.
