i just did a major service for my 355 spider 1997. am joining an exotic car run 3000 miles trip. will the 355 take such a continuous distance without breaking down. i know its a general question but am a bet hesitant.

is it an F1 car or Manual..?

if everything is running well after the major.. I think it can handle the 3000mile trip no problem.

id keep a 1-2 liters of oil in the trunk and keep an eye on the oil level during the trip.
all 355 oil consumption appears to be different, however as per owners manual normal to burn ~1L per 1000kms.. my car burns ~1L per ~2500kms depending how hard I drive etc..

ive driven nearly 10,000miles over my 2 year ownership, almost daily and has never broken down on me..!

    Lovely car!!!

I'd think it should be good to go after the fresh major. Agree with keeping extra oil on hand, a basic tool kit as well.

I can see there are test pipes on the car in your first picture..
I was going to say ideally if you were still on stock cats that they were well inspected before putting them back on.. but since you have test pipes no problem there..

is the car throwing any CELs or SlowDown lights. currently..?

Sure it'll do a trip though you should do a thorough inspection prior and check your oil throughout the trip.

Where are you? If US, would bring an ODB2 scanner but it may not work (do a search and test yours ) and it only tells you some things - better than nothing.

Yes on oil and tools - would do an alignment if not done as 3k miles is a bit - if it is a lot of freeway miles then stand the rear wheels up straighter if u want to lengthen tire life.

I would do some cosmetic stuff like a polish and a coating or poly sealant and treat the top with ragtop or something and go clear bra now rather than later.

If the car has sdl computers I would take a spare it seems to be the only thing that can basically shut you down that is electronic.

Remember, these cars are built for driving, not just for looking at them. Just keep a simple tool selection in case you bottom out to remove covers and stuff and drive it. I mean , drive it. 355s are not comfortable at low speeds and they should not be idling for prolonged periods of times.
Do the trip then come back and prove me wrong.

    Have fun

Mine did 3000 miles without issue London -> Monza -> Maranello -> Tuscany and back.

Well, I say without issue - I did get a puncture near Bologna. When the flatbed turned up, the guy said "Pirelli for Ferrari in Italy is difficult." Spent half a day in a Ferrari/Maserati dealership being fed coffee and cakes while they drove around the area looking for a pair of Michelin PSS in 265/40/18... which they found!

Take some oil, it will use some over that distance.

My biggest piece of advice would be don't worry - it'll spoil your trip.

I would have no hesitation (not considering the probable back pain) driving my 355 across country. :)

Mu understanding is that Ferraris are generally very reliable if well maintained. I drove mine (1998 355 spider) to Pennsylvania after purchasing it in Florida a few years ago. There were some things that needed to be sorted out when I got home ($14,000 later), but I didn't have many concerns during the trip. I even found the driving position comfortable, other than a broken spring in the left thigh bolster that dug into my leg at times. Extra oil isn't a bad idea, as the specific type recommended might be hard to find in the middle of nowhere. Other than that, drive it and enjoy it. I would much rather do a nice long trip than drive it 5 miles down the road to a cars and coffee, then back home again.

I did two 1500-mile weekend trips in July and August this year, right after a minor service. Had a great time. Seat was comfortable.

My main complaint would actually be the gearing. It seems to be set that in 6th at 60mph it is cruising comfortably. But there is a long stretch in Utah that are actually 80mph/130kph limits, which means the traffic is doing closer to 90mph. Then in 6th the car is pushing 4k RPMs and the throttle is touchy - the car wants to run!
