In the meantime while waiting for the tubes: challenge airbox in matte cf (top and bottom) going in next month Image Unavailable, Please Login
LOL this will most probably bring the weight savings close to 150 kgs Trust me once you feel the difference the weight reductions make you never want to stop the diet: more than ever a BEAST
OK maybe it is time to go more extreme. IMO you should consider getting a set of Challenge doors or better GT3 doors because their side mirrors are really very cool. You will save tons of weight but then you will of course have no power windows. Oh and the worst for last there are no locking mechanism on these doors. So transferring your locking system into these doors would be quite a "Challenge"
More agile for sure. The slower transmission and the absence of the SSC makes it feel a lot more raw. Very similar to a Scuderia but much quicker
Actually thought of that LOL, the only issue with door mods, aside from foregoing the electric window alternator, window glass altogether and locking mechanisms, is to deal with the codes thrown by the lack of airbags in the side doors: Challenges indeed haha!
Totally agree, not sure the transmission feels slower than the Speciale's though, just less smooth and sophisticated, more raw, the first gen traction control also make her a twitchy girl: give her too much throttle too fast and you will end up on the sidewalk. Also the suspension and seat mods make me feel more connected to the car and to the road than with the S. I was surprised how much and how fast I could get on the throttle of Dusty's S without as much as a hint of spin: great machine that.
It's all in the weight!! - now you can imagine why me and Lola like to keep it light and how much fun we have on freeways! xoxo
Pitty these cars will go for the new versions: 488C (http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/458-italia-488/539476-new-488-challenge-announced.html)
So, engine bay lightweight mods underway, this will include: - custom matte cf fuel pump covers - challenge matte cf airbox - ltw challenge air induction tubes and related hardware - side engine panel delete (pending on how the tubes look) What say ye for the induction tubes: red or black? (will probably order both LOL) xoxo Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Some shots of the 458C engine bay to give an idea how the tubes would look and of the oem matte cf airbox cover. I really like the more technical look given by the removal of the side engine panels, of course my airbox plaque would remain the stock 458 Italia one Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think Red but would want to see installed to be certain. Regards Michael Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
I would probably also change out the black tubes from the air box to the plenum for Red silicone tubes solid ones not the concertina type ....the same company stocks them... Regards Michael Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
Here is the link Auto Silicone Hoses - Silicone Polyester Reinforced Hose - 127mm - Choose From 15 Colours Here is a pic of a 488 with red silicone intake tubes, these are fabspeed ones and they are pricey. The DIY option will work just as well just need to order the correct diameter, I'm sure they will also cut yo length for you as well as they can be a pain to cut neatly. Thanks Michael; looks great!! However, on the 458 the tubes have sensors on them which might cause an issue, while on the 488 the sensors are beyond the tubes, will inquire.. Very best Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Had a look around this 458 challenge today that won a few races here Thought you may appreciate some pictures of the seats!! I sat in them and IMHO they were really uncomfortable but each to there own.. One thing that was very evident was the weight of the doors, the composite doors were incredibly light, I mean really light... if you are obsessed with weight reduction, then I would say these have to be a must for you. I'm sure there are loads of spares around from the race teams....
