Are all R 2 seats only?
The 1967 911R is more similar to the 1967 911 than the 2016 911R is to the 2016 911. There is actually a lot of technology and tweaks to this car.
I completely disagree. Let's start with the fact that the '67 911r was built as a race car. Too bad it wasn't homologated. The new one's race abilities? Next, 911r weighs only 80% of the 67 S. How does that compare with the current 911r? From 1000kg (2200lb) to 800kg (1760 lbs), 440 lbs less. The lightest 911 ever made. The new 911r is a piggy 3021 pounds, down just 110 pounds from a GT3 or 96.5% of the GT3. "their first aim being to strip the Porsche 911 S of every ounce of unnecessary weight. Although the unitary steel bodyshell was retained, anything bolted onto it – such the bonnet, doors and wings – were replaced by glassfibre panels. Plexiglas replaced the heavy windows and metal parts were drilled with holes to resemble Swiss cheese. The cockpit was stripped to the bare minimum and sound insulation was removed. Even the door handles were ditched in favour of simple plastic straps and the tail-lights were replaced by smaller parts of minimal weight. Four prototypes were built that way, each one a little lighter than its predecessor. By the end, the 1,030kg of a standard Porsche 911 S had been reduced to 800kg on the scales. The 911 R remains the lightest 911 constructed by the factory to date." Finally, the engine and other bits... "Piëch specified lightweight, wider wheels for faster cornering speeds, plus a tachometer reading to 10,000rpm and a ‘Monza’ steering wheel. Next on the list was an engine to match the potential of this projectile. Piëch settled on the 210HP aluminium six-cylinder Type 901/22, basically as used in 906 and 910 Porsche racing models." Here's a good article on them, which I quoted above. www.classicdriver.com/en/article/cars/ferdinand-piechs-ground-breaking-1967-porsche-911-r-still-lightest-all-911s Do you still think the new one is more dissimilar/special and indeed deserves the R status? The R is for race...
That car already sold. ^ 599 was the asking price. Went quick, so they got close to that. I'm picking one up in a few days.

I'm curious what will happen to these premiums when the new GT3 with the same transmission shows up next year?
No, I'm not saying that. But, there are indeed cars that are being supplied at MSRP to some people. And therein lies the problem. I recall another Halo Porsche, the 991 GT3 RS that not-too-long ago commanded similarly terrific premiums. The novelty soon wore off, and what can you buy those for now? That's my point, and I see no reason why this car will eventually be any different.
An unual account of a 991 R delivery to a US customer from the VIP program. YouTuber Salomondrin Buys 2017 Porsche 911 R, Is Locked in Trunk, Ruins Mileage - autoevolution
While the premiums have shrunk, most (all?) used 991 GT3RS' still trade for over MSRP. And a lot of that had to do with Porsche repeatedly increasing production. Surely the premiums on the 911Rs will also diminish, but for now the only 911Rs are being delivered for MSRP to the first owners, almost all of whom are in the VIP program (I've heard single-digit cars 'escaped' the program). The amount of the premium can be up for debate, and varies from car to car and deal to deal, but the notion that any available 911R should have a cheque in the glovebox rebating the entire premium implies there are no premiums and there are cars available on the open market at MSRP, which simply isn't true.
30k to 40k over for Lava Orange and Purple GT3RS. I just got rid of one. Up to 80k for PTS 250k over is the market on a 991R. That's if I am buying it, maybe more for a desperate buyer, that has to have one. If you keep your MSRP 911R, while people are paying 250k over, then money must not be that important to you. It's nowhere near a 500k car. 991.2 GT3 will have 495hp coming from 4.0 with a Manual option, so that will kill this market. Most people are dumping their GT3 RS, because GT2 RS is coming out soon. Rear wheel drive, Manual, 600+hp
I see the new DuPont Registry has a 911R listed for sale - asking price is $699,000!!! The car is white with red stripes but I'm not sure of the car's specs.
That's essentially my point, to what extent, let's wait and see, I'm entitled to my opinion (obviously made with some humor), and it doesn't have to be the same as yours.
If one could get a future Porsche at MSRP, which future model would you recommend from a financial perspective?
GT2RS will be bought up by program customers, and sold at TDF like markups. GT3 manual Paint to Sample. Picked up my R today. Meh. I'd rather have a V12 Vantage S manual, and 270k.
How about a manual 599 GTB? Got to ogle it this past weekend. Tasty car. http://www.boardwalkferrari.com/used/Ferrari/2008-Ferrari-599+GTB+Fiorano+6-Speed+Manual-Dallas-bcac01f10a0e0a175837ce5802b43cd4.htm If I might ask, what didn't you like about the R? It's been getting near universal raves. T
