The expansion tank on my -85 Mondial QV Cabriolet was toast. Nothing to start working on. Searched for a replacement but couldn't find one. Started looking for exp tanks that looked similar and noticed that for a 348 the shape was at least triangular. Bought it and found it to be in very good condition. Still not the same shape I was looking for, until I realised that they were exactly the same, just flipped. All connections were in the wrong place. Handed it over to a very good welder, he had previously opened up my aluminium petrol tanks on the GT4, welded back the interiour baffle plates and then welded the two halfes back together again. That good.
He cut the 348 in half along the sides. Made new tubes for the hose connections, took out the brass neck for the radiator cap mounted it in the other half, made fitting for the air valve under the tank, made three new mounting fittings, welded the two halfs together and painted it. When I got it back, it was just to drop it down in place. Perfect fit. I really admire professional craftsmen! Oh, I was also contributing. I put a new sticker on.
Told him not to make a hole for the level sensor since it was broken. Might go back there in the future, perhaps, and mount one. Bought an expansion tank for an Alfa 164 that use a similar sensor, but I do not think it is worth the job.

That's amazing! Cheers to the excellent skill and talent of your welder.

FYI, my Saudi spec 3.2 Coupe (now sold) didn't have the level sensor. But then, the 3.2 didn't have the center console check system either.

Thank you! It really was an excellent job he made. Ok, so they didn't use it on the 3.2. Probably for good reasons...

You might want to put a tank sealer in it now that it's clean. Motorcycle tank sealer. To prevent it from rusting out again.

Also, pretty sure my 3.2 has a center console check control.
