Hey Guys, Here is a crappy iPhone teaser picture of some of the completed parts (assembly still required). Randy will be posting videos and better photos Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Andres, These came to us from a dealer so I don't know. We fully take them apart on receipt and that has some challenges.
Many thanks, Dave. I hope never to need your services, but it's good to know you're there. Best, Andres
Hello Folks, So, we have some after photos to post - I'll let Randy post better ones over the next few days. A couple before and after..... We fully disassemble these parts, refinish and laser etch each part, then reassemble. I've have several folks ask me about the laser etch process so let me explain: All illuminated graphics are done by the OEM with laser technology and we do the exact process here. The only difference between our process and the original OEM process is that we don't use a soft touch coating - we use a hard touch. Others simply clean the soft touch and sometimes apply a low gloss clear over the factory laser etched parts. That can be done with success providing the base part has no damage - if it's damaged then the process needs to be done from scratch and it can't be done without laser etching. Also, our coatings are the most durable in the industry - both chemical and mar resistance as demonstrated in this video: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNpQ6mJXwZY[/ame] Thanks for checking this out and more to follow soon Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
BMW & VW also have this issue....recently worked on a 2012 Mini Cooper that has the goo mess on the radio buttons.
I'm new to the Ferrari 458 world. This thread is disconcerting. I have a 2013 with 3800 miles and no sign of soft touch issues.
Joe, I believe the car that these parts are from is a 2011. My buddy has a 2013 and his factory parts are perfect also. There is no linear relationship regarding time when the soft touch fails. Hopefully yours won't for a long time.
This topic is largely avoided if the car is kept in a temperature controlled environment. Am surprised most F owners do not invest in cooling / dehumidifying their garage and using film on the garage windows to knockout UV rays. The "new car" smell and feel lasts almost indefinitely if kept in this environment - which compared to the price of one or more of these cars is very small.
My Maserati GT has always been kept in a temperature controled storage aside from driving it and it's goning bad now
i put on 4-5k miles per year but otherwise the car is in a "perfect" environment. if mine bubbles up, we should consider a class action against Ferrari . if mine ever does, will get your help as the quality looks phenomenal.
Good Afternoon Guys, Here's a short video of the Refinishing work on the 458 HVAC panel: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goGQ2uGOB4A[/ame]
how much are we talking about here roughly, for dismantling, refinishing and then put it all back together?
Hello, If you would like to send us an email, I'd be happy to discuss your needs dave.lelonek@**********.com Thank you
Good Morning FChat, Here's a brief clip of the 458's Right Hand Display Cluster parts getting Laser Etched: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ik-XoDiy4gA[/ame] This piece came out Phenomenal. If anyone has questions or needs refinishing work done on their exotic, just drop us a line. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello Folks, Here is another video of the left hand pod assembly in the 458 with our laser etching process Along with a couple photos (before and after) Enjoy [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5unNPBy7J4[/ame] Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you Hi Joe, My buddy has a 2013 458 and his parts are fine (now). But, sorry to deliver bad news but at some point they will all fail.
Good Morning FChat, Here's a quick video of the side view mirror control switch getting laser marked after full disassembly and paint refinishing. All graphics illuminate at night, same as OEM. We also laser etch the small illuminated switch position indicator (the "pip" as I call it) on the knob. I have an '02 360 and some of them are failing and others are not....frustrating that my 16yr old Honda has no problem on the switches/knobs.
