    Further to the comments above.......

Does Patrick have a ride for next year? If so, why? She clearly is not one of the top talents and, based on my own informal research, she certainly doesn't seem to command the media attention that she used to. So that implies that she doesn't have the capability to bring a lot of sponsorship money. So......why?

  2. If she's there, then apparently she does. There's an alternative answer but I don't know the age group here nor what's offensive to anyone. Let's just say, maybe she gets right down and works on the "cars"... 'just sayin'.... ;)

I realize she's there, I was really more interested in knowing if she'll be around next year.

With respect to your speculation.........I would;)

  4. I meant in the future. I just looked at the running order for the race and there are names that have been there a while that I realise never have a prayer yet they keep getting sponsors and I don't understand why so......?

I think she'll remain (much to my chagrin). We'll see.

(edit: 'No speculation, I wuz just funnin'....that would be a pretty expensive "mechanic"....but similar has been said about actresses..... :D)

there were many on this site that swore that she was a real talent and would take nascar by storm and have a bunch of us eating crow.

and there were a few of us that knew from the beginning that she was an experiment and had not shown any real talent...ever.

well, she still brings the money in...she stays with a ride. yes, she will be there at shr next year too. a joke really.

where are the f-chat / danica cheerleaders now?

So, you mean to tell us that Danica's 2013 Pole Position at Daytonner was really a NASCAR
    manipulated farce?

Good heavens, it can't be so!

This is a prime example of how low NASCAR will go to gain media attention and satisfy
    sponsors.

  7. Again BW, with all due respect, where is it different in any other form of racing? My last bastion of hope, le 24 Heures du Mans, allowed the Ford GT, a car that has not hit the street yet, in.....that BoPd the sheet out of it and....lo and behold, surprise, surprise....it won
(only it's class, not outright; but don't mention that on the FGTChat board as they will ban you like they did me...and I'm a Ford fan since ABCs Le Mans coverage in '65).

Again, it's all losin' what it was. ;(

No idea what long term means in NASCAR ;)

Your right - it's all losing what it was - I have a friend that races in Trans Am - he is a great driver and we have fun at the races like it s supposed to be - have a golf cart and run around and say hello to everyone we know in the pits - in an hour and its over - they always have a great party the night before and everybody involved is there - they don't mind bumping and grinding away either - no crowds and really nice people - my friend's wife works as part of the crew - now were back to grass roots fun! I get to take grand kids to - they get to sit in race cars - the whole deal

  10. I bet she "sighed"....a sigh of relief to get it.... :D

(yeah, yeah. I know what you meant...an h is really just an n with a big spoiler on it.:))

Absolutely correct that all major forms of racing are guilty of manipulation.

As long as I've been watching sports cars (and lets just say that's a long time now) the
sanctioning bodies have always walked a tight rope keeping the varying technologies
in the various classes from becoming one sided.

In the GTP era, for example, Jaguar cried foul as the turbo charged Porsches were allowed
to increase boost when the normally aspirated cars got too close. IMSA responded by freezing
turbo boost so it could not be controlled in the cockpit.

The BoP issue in the GTE Pro category at Le Mans this year was beyond annoying. The inclusion
of Ford into the mix saw the ACO trim 25 kilos off the Ford GTs while adding 25 kilos to the Ferraris
and even more to the Corvettes. This, it must be pointed out, was done after the Le Mans tests
and some indicated that at the behest of Ganassi Racing which is more than experienced at whining
enough to officialdom to get its own way.

Still, even with this weight advantage, the Ford team had to go out and run the 24 Hours
with no "Lucky Dog" waive arounds or other such NASCAResque nonsense to create false drama.
The Ford teams had to go out and execute. And, while no one could have expected
both of the AF Corse Ferraris to drop out as they did, Ford to their credit, ran a perfectly
executed plan and got to the finish and won GTE Pro.

Ford got their melancholy 50th anniversary finish at Le Mans. Competing teams and attending
media were steaming mad about it. IIRC, a heated debate started in this and other forums
about the ACO's manipulation of BoP to accommodate Ford.

With the Danica Patrick situation at the 2013 Daytonner 500, this was plain and simple,
NASCARs outright heavy handed manipulation of qualifying either by allowing Danica's car
to run lighter and/or with more power in the motor or simply altering the timing sheets. Either
way, the obvious manipulation likewise got people talking as to that point, Danica had barely
managed to be a blip on the map in qualifying or in the races which thereafter as returned to
    status quo as we've seen.

There were plenty of raised eyebrows from both fans and in the media room. The difference
being, if any of the credentialed NASCAR media dares to say or write anything derogatory
about NASCAR, their credentials are pulled, they're escorted off the track grounds and threatened
with arrest (no less). So, in other words, come to the races, enjoy the media
center and the free flowing buffet but do not dare to step out of line and criticize NASCAR
officialdom as access will be lost.

Balancing competitiveness (or lack thereof) of sports cars is a very different animal to outright
manipulation of results either in qualifying or in races. NASCAR has been guilty of this for
so long now that it just seems to be not only accepted but defended by attending media.

And when NASCAR pulls stunts like this, as they seem to do on an almost weekly basis
these days, it brings all of racing down to their level.

    BHW

  12. I gotta....

How is allowing a car that is not homogated (in essence, a race car that will have a street counterpart as opposed to a street car with a race car counterpart) with advantageous BoP not "outright manipulation of results"?

That's okay to you but not NASCAR's. Again I ask...so why give it (NASCAR) the time of day when you despise it so much? ;);)

    I hadda'....it's genetic. :D

The other teams did agree to allow the Ford GT to run this year..

  15. ...'cause they knew it was good hype for LM and the series in general being Ford's 50th aniiversary of 1st victory at LM.

That's not sport to me. That's plain old business, pure and simple. The car should have been classified a prototype not as GT as it has none on the street yet.
Their agreeing to allow it doesn't lessen the fact that it's no longer sport. Nay, it reinforces that it's just a rolling billboard service now. And insult to injury, BoPing it to the point that they had such an advantage they could lope along for 24 hours with little fear of breaking. Somehow Risi spoiled their repeat of the 1-2-3 finish. Oh boo-hoo.
Even Porsche cranked out the 25 917s required to be homologated back when it was still a sport.

Just my two....naaahhh....just one penny. Thanks for letting me vent, once again.

NASCAR has finally figured out their new chase is too confusing, they've dropped the chase names for something more descriptive. Now they just need to abandon a format made for two teams on a field, instead of 40, and go back to something that makes sense for motor races with 40+ cars participating. If you want elimination rounds, you need special races with just those involved.

That's a big "if" to me. I'd rather not. But, if it has to be, I agree wholheartedly.

I watch the seasons (diff. series) 'til the bitter end, even if someone is the apparent champ half way thru the season. If they're that strong in the first place, they deserve it...not someone that beats them in some little runoff 'cause they got lucky or had a good streak at the right time. (I'm not a football fan at all but one game decides the champ??? At least baseball and basketball is 4 of 7).

In 1970 Rindt won the WC posthumously; the only driver (hopefully) to do so. He had earned enuff points in the first 9 races that no one caught his total with the 4 remaining. [anyone 'member his Armco to Armco chase of Brabham at Monaco; lap record after lap record at the end of the race (worn everything in the age-ed '49; no pit stops back then for you "youngsters")...the best nearly a second quicker than pole time?! (1:23.2 vs. Jackie's 1:24.0 pole) Thank you "Wide World of Sports". This kid of 15 loved it and the TV screen is in my head as I type (errr...hunt and peck...).]
If there had been a "chase" or "playoff" he would not have been in the running even tho' he and Lotus were the very best that year.
Would that be right for anyone today???

    rip Jochen. I digress.

The FIA did not want to give him the WDC. Many of the other drivers were pretty vocal about it, especially Sir Jackie. Sir Jackie was very intent on winning races over the 2nd place in points Ikx to insure Rindt still won the championship.

I haven't gotten out much this year, lots of midnight oil. Found out when I went to bed this morning I had free tickets for some of the NASCAR stuff.

The Wheelen Modifieds did not repeat their parade of last year. They kept it dicing to the end. Great finish to the night.

Cup Qualifying, well, about as interesting as big slot cars sadly. No suspension movement, no real braking zones anymore in qualifying, just hold it tight and let aero and horsepower rule. I'm an anti-fan of Harvick, so not a good pole result either.

Alex Bowman put in some fast laps in Jr's Chebby.

I did not get up there for the better half dash, was side tracked being a suit and helmet for some potential footage for NASCAR's "chase" TV lead ins and didn't make it up in time for that.

Good day, great to be back at the track.

Funny thing, the tickets have to cover the nationwide logo's on the driver's uniform with a white fill that says Xfinity.

I wish the name could stand, it always strikes me odd when they talk of "last years XYZ cup winner here", when it wasn't a XYZ cup last year.

Interesting article on NASCAR in the Charlotte Observer. But, suppose there are a lot
of NASCAR articles from the Charlotte Observer on a daily basis.

This one though manages to get to the core of some of NASCAR's problems, nudged along
by their xenophobic fan base which seem to be in near unanimous agreement that Toyota
(of all things) is the root of all the things wrong with NASCAR.

We've poured over NASCAR's many self-inflicted ills ad nausea to the point where it's almost
become boring. But, interesting to read the observations from NASCAR country...
