I've read many threads about exhaust modifications, enhancement, replacement, etc. It's a rite of passage for all 365/400/412, and everyone has their preference. But to my knowledge no one has compared and contrasted other than describing it in prose. Could everyone use this thread to post their exhaust notes, or link to their exhaust note? It is possible to post audio and video through public f-chat post attachment.

Interesting idea.... make sure to document recording location and conditions. My car has a Tubi with all the mufflers/resonators in place. It's pretty quiet in the cabin and from the side of the car. It sounds much better from behind. Obviously huge difference between cruise and WFO throttle.

It would be very interesting to hear Your Tubi setup. My car has a Stebro and as many has discovered before me they are simply not impressive out of the box. But give it a few thousand km/miles and it's a whole other matter.

What kind of equipment is requiered to get a good and true sound clip ? A modern phone ?? I would be happy to do mine as long as I don't need to buy the equipment :)

    Hi Tom:

That's the car you bought from Ben Kao and that you brought to the FList Indy GP in the 2000/2001 timeframe, right? If so, I can attest that that tubi sounds awesome, particularly going through the Battery Park tunnel in lower Manhattan!

Driving Ben's car was my first 400i experience. Very nice setup!

Hope this is the go-to thread for sound/video posts :D

I remember looking into them back in '07, I remember the total set-up was in the neighborhood of USD $12G  Headers was another $5-6G! Haven't seen it available however since '09.

I heard that they were a bear to get fit into the car!

    Bruce,

Tubi is still available for about $7100 and another $4200 for headers. Can be ordered via Eurospares.

Regarding the Stebro - the rear silencers didn't fit in any way. Good now but not perfect. Round 2 of bend & cut is happening this summer :)

Thanks for that Arvid! I don't see it on their site, just the Ansa's. Did you call them on that? It was a long time ago, I must have included the headers on that $12K cost.
I'm curious if Tubi eliminated the balancing pipes on their headers…
Good luck with round 2, please post a vid/sound bite here when you're done!

Here they are Bruce : Tubi Style exhausts - Ferrari 400 | Order Online Eurospares

"Tubi Style Exhaust" can be found in the top menu on their page. Looks to be a perfect fit and should sound amazing although probably even better with 2 instead of 3 center mufflers. Let's hope the price reflects some sound engineering and not only nicely welded seams. I am very curious of how Tubi sounds on these older V12's to say the least.

    Good day All,

Has anyone done any spectral (and/or audio) analysis of the exhaust (waves)? If so would they share their data? I have always wondered about this given how the exhaust sound and performance varies between various exhaust manufacturers. I would imagine that Tubi, etc would do this, in order to determine the optimum baffling material, location, tube perforations, etc for both performance and for sound. I have a few books on the subject, but sadly, I have yet to go through them. I was just curious if anyone has done this type of scientific analysis here?

    Cheers,

    Sam

Look up Time Valve they have excellent products. Yes I own one of their systems. I installed it with two end wrenches a couple of screw drivers a floor jack and jack stands. I did not have to bend, adjust twist, heat, or dent anything.IT FIT PERFECTLY!!! And delivered for a lot less than the system you are talking about. A LOT LESS. They guarantee their system will not rust out. If it has cats the cats aren't included in the guarantee because they aren't stainless and aren't manufactured by Time Valve.
    Terrific guys to work with.

This should be an easy question to answer
Stock exhaust= sounds like a Ferrari
Straight pipes with mods= old camaro with cherry bombs

Ask me how I know....... It's a long story
Keep the exhaust how Ferrari intended......stock

OK, I'll bite... How do you know? Do you have any sound clips of the non Ferrari OEM systems? Have you done some analysis of the exhaust system that you would like to share?

Understood. How about just the highlights or perhaps just an overview? Have you done some analysis on the resulting exhaust sound or perhaps the resulting standing waves that are created? I am curious how you have determined that the stock exhaust system is the best and also how you define best (i.e. looks, sound, performance, etc)?

I think what ever sound you are happy with should be all the analysis needed. If you like stock or annoyingly loud it's up to you.

Enjoy your Canada day weekend cheers!
