The Do Over Some straight to Netflix Adam Sandler & David Spade buddy crime comedy, it was pretty bad & kept falling asleep during the film. The only positive thing was it did have a Ferrari California in it briefly & the film can be used to treat insomnia.
Liked the first half more than the second. When she progressed to being an X-Men mutant or Lawnmower Man I was only watching to complete the movie.
Chang (1927). An anthropological docu-drama, akin to Nanook of the North, except a lot hotter and less clothing. 😉 Not PC by today's standards - a few animals get shot - but an interesting look at the struggles of a small Lao family in the forest of northern Thailand...T
Just watched Rashomon (1950), the Kurosawa classic. From IMDB... "During shooting, the cast approached Kurosawa en masse with the script and asked him, 'What does it mean?'"... Gonna have to go with the cast on this. Odd movie. Not really sure what it meant. Didn't enjoy it as much as Yojimbo or Seven Samurai...T
The Whistleblower Disturbing and very sad. But an excellent performance by Rachel Weisz http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0896872/ https://www.amazon.com/Whistleblower-Rachel-Weisz/dp/B009K6AOF6 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Whistleblower
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rashomon_effect In the film, Kurosawa gives four different perspectives of the same events, leaving it to the audience to try to wring "truth" from four slanted viewpoints. Like many Kurosawa films, this one was also remade as a western: "The Outrage" (1964).
Thank you. I think this may be one of those movies that I need to see a few more times to appreciate the subtlety...T
London has fallen. Well...ok.. It is almost identical with the Olympus has fallen. It was a nice action movie.
Across 110th Street with Anthony Quinn. Such a good movie. One of few which really catches style of '70s NYC IMHO. Great part of Yaphet Kotto ! + Bobby Womack Title Song - classic ! [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cxof6gidDO8[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOg_8hCC4u4[/ame]
I watched this on Amazon last night. An unusual if far fetched plot but interesting none the less. Kind of a throwback to a 60s-80s film ala The Boys From Brazil. A very different plot. Christopher Plummer & Martin Landau (his character was very underdeveloped which is too bad) Hitchcock would have done this one superbly. Anyone else seen it?
Recently: 13 Hours, it was so good that I watched it 2 nights in a row. Never, ever did that before. 10 Cloverfield Lane, very good. But don't look it up otherwise it'll spoil the ending for you. The Finest Hours, starts off as a somewhat corny, period film in the typical Disney fashion but after the first 1/2 or so it get really interesting and captivating. Worth watching as a cheap rental. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2025690/
Two documentaries... The Ghost Army, about a WW2 unit who engaged in deception to assist the Normandy landings. Peter Coyote is always great as a narrator. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2649274/ Medal of Honor (2008) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1325593/ Story of some ordinary men who performed extraordinary acts of bravery...T
recall that the more or less forgotten Tarantino movie, Jackie Brown, uses the song at the beginning and end. BTW Jackie Brown is excellent
Tried to go to the movies for the last 3 weekends in a row. I had been busy since Christmas and finally have some downtime for the entire family. For the last three weekends there's been nothing at the movies. I can't give my money away! Yet 4 big summer movies have been advertising for the last 8 weeks, unfortunately everyone is holding back their blockbuster for release closer to the July 4th weekend? Funny thing is I"ll be busy then, and won't have time for the movies. Stupid Hollywood! Good luck fighting over the same holiday weekend with (Independence Day, Tarzan, Ghost-busters, Star Trek). Me? I'm going to the Keys... guess I'll wait until I can watch them for free at home in a few months. (The importance of 3 day holiday opening weekends has gotten so ridiculous in terms of releases dates, its become yet another reason not to see a film in the theaters).
Miss Meadows with Katie Holmes. Starts of a bit whimsical and quirky, but overall a decent rental. Miss Meadows (2014) - IMDb [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1Qb3_7mauw[/ame] .
