JohnnyRay, should I buy a 3 pedal? they seem very rare? bob
I am Aston Martin ignorant, but willing to learn! So here's my question..... I like the pic of the AM that Speedmaster posted - the nasty convertible with the vents in the hood. What year & model would this be and is it available in 6 speed manual/spider configuration? Thanks to anybody who can get me up to speed!
If you like the idea of a DB9, then yes. I see the prices holding for all the manual cars...and have only seen a few over the last several years. Expect $70s to $90s depending on year. A DBS would be even better and rarer. I was watching one with a manual and the asking price was in the high 100s. Not sure if they can command that, but it gives you an idea of the movement in prices...
Hi JohnnyRay. Youre right. Manual DBS have almost sold out in Europe. Expect to pay 125k euro for an average mileage with decent spec. (1year ago, it would have been 90-100K euro) But thats Europe, no idea about US.
Haha Glad you like the nasty car and the vents Heres another pic of the car, you can see the vents properly. Its a 2013 V12 Vantage Roadster. Limited production run, only 101 made. All manual, no auto available (also only manual for the coupe) Unfortunately, the V12V Roadster was never sold in the US. However, the new V12 Vantage S Roadster, will now be sold in the US including manual 7 speed gearbox. No idea on pricing in the States.... For the full history on the Vantage: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aston_Martin_Vantage_(2005)) p.s: Nice 550 you have there, what color red is that?. Its like the love child of my ferrari 550 with the same wheels but in my Aston color. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
JohnnyRay, very nice and clean looking Aston, striking colour combination and exceptional number plate! For me the DB9 is the best looking Aston of the new area by far. Personally, I think the vents destroy the pure design.... Saluti, Jürgen
Yeah it does alter the design. Some like it, others dont. The V12 vantage was not designed for its exterior beauty, but was an Aston Martin hotrod: smallest car with the biggest engine. The pure essence of hotrod 101. Due to squeezing a 6 liter v12 massive engine in such a small space, there was no choice but to make louvres in the car. At a traffic light, you see an extremely big heat gaze rise up over the bonnet. For me there is nothing more "beautiful" than form following function. Its good that we all like different things, makes the world a better place
Ha! You caught the plate. I have friends at the DMV! They let me know when a certain number combination comes up, then I register. I have 007 on both Astons and 550 on the...you guessed it. My DB9 is a 2007 and was originally a show floor car at Aston Martin of Dallas. I am the second owner and got it with very low mileage on it and not abused in any way. Thus it is pretty much as new still. Astons do have exceptional paintwork. They say that it takes a week to complete each paint job at the factory. The leather work is superb as well...
Thanks Speedmaster. My 550M is Rosso Fiorano. I just sold my Ross Monza 599. Even though they are 2 different colors, I couldn't detect a difference with my eyes! Gratuitous proud-parent pics attached! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm impressed by the 550 looking far far better than the 599. Never been a fan of the 599 and never will be. The 550 was the ultimate dream when I was a kid. I remember being always a bit sad watching power stats compared to Lambo of the same time. Why is the Ferrari less powerfull than the Lambo. Haha I was just a kid daydreaming... Thanks for the pretty picture
The apparent difference in the size of the 599 vs 550 is striking. Wolf - maybe a newer Vanquish in a color to match the 550? A drop top for SoCal seems to be in order...
johnnyRay, what do you think of this one? miles are a little high. Cars for Sale: Used 2011 Aston Martin DB9 in Volante, Roslyn NY: 11576 Details - Convertible - Autotrader
It's got the right stuff. Miles are acceptable, but wouldn't regarded as low. To me, the colors are boring. Astons should pop. I know you like black/dark colors though. And, one owner is a plus. Is this one going to WI or FL if you buy? As a dealer sale, you probably can't come out well enough to profit on a near-term flip, so you have to want it to use and enjoy. Might be well bought at around $90K considering its a 2011...
This is what you find for less money: http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/aston-martin/db9-volante/1751154.html Couldn't recommend it vs the 2011 for the difference in $$$
I think best place to be is a 09'. Just finding a stick is the issue. I think 5% are stick cars. There is a 09 automatic dark blue/tan for $64k. ???
I will bet that the number is more like 2%. (anyone know?) There are leagues of auto cars out there. If it fits your use case, then the search becomes completely different. Of course you lose the uniqueness and rarity that come with a 3 pedal DB9 convertible...which is why you thought of one in the first place. Keep your eye on the prize! It will complement your 550 ownership nicely. Ask me how I know! ;-)
I am so with you, I found it amusing that the gentleman called a 5 year old car with 25,000 miles hi mileage ? to me that's perfect mileage because it's been driven and as long as it's been serviced properly should be a great car
