My guess is that if CNC had an ounce of sense they got a complete "hold harmless" on the deal from OP thus taking them out any negative repercussions. I know if I were in CNC position knowing what OP is doing I would have been more than little careful dealing with OP. CNC likely thought they were doing OP a favor (and made little $$ on the deal). CNC’s lack of comments tend to convince me they are some way out of the deal ie. HH agreement.
Having read the entire thread I just can't cut OP any slack in this deal at all. Stupid or sloppy business practices on his part at the very best. Then his attempt to smear Roy's firm is just typical of that kind of person. How would you like to be one of 200 employees that has to put up with the guy on a regular basis?

All agreed but why do they jump in this fight? I'm talking strategy here. Best move for them is to say nothing-as they have.

    Steering Gremlins!!!

CNC really has no reason to be here. The OP asked CNC to get the car for him because he got bent out of shape. The car was not misrepresented with the PPI. Not really any recourse anywhere.

Maybe parts written by himself but the online screen names are part of fan forums related to his work and there are enough people obsessed with the minutiae of that franchise that they'd document interaction with fans in that way. Benefit of the doubt on that one. Now if it said something about all the friends he's made in the car community under other screen names...

Whoa baby! Didn't read it all but..
May I presume the cliff notes are; Movie tycoon chooses an AMC Gremlin over a previously considered Ferrari. He then makes an end run around the original seller with whom he was presumably transparent and purchases from a third party he presumably already knows.
Said Gremlin fails to meet big shot's expectations so he whines and looks for support to defame a previous owner (who apparently disclosed the faults the big shot is upset about) here, on a Ferrari forum, about a Gremlin that he bought from someone else.
    Makes sense to me.
Where do they grow these people?
BTW For what the OP probably spends on tipping his valet the entire steering and suspension of a Gremlin can be rebuilt by just about any ham handed mechanic on earth. Did CNC really quote $6500-$8500 for this?! Perhaps they should try to remain under the radar on this.

Came across this beauty. did not read all but enough to put down some thoughts from an old Fchat timer:
Have not bought yet from Roy. He is far away from me. The opposite side but discussed a few things a few times abut cars and he seems straight and helpful, despite some fierce "debates" with other helpful Fchat members. :)

The OP bought the car from CNC not Roy so I am lost on why raging against Roy? Roy sold the car wholesale to another dealer who sold it to the OP. The OP has a problem with CNC not Roy. I think offering to buy the car back is above and beyond what I even would do if I were in Roys shoe.

Roy did disclose an issue with the steering so CNC is responsible to know that.

Steping down from a $300K Ferrari to a $22K financed car is quite a switch but may be there are Gremlins lovers. I do like some cheap Chrysler myself simply because I can work on them freely.

As a side note, years of experiences showed me that the quiet ones are the one who have the money, knowledge and wisdom. The noisy ones with inconsistent behavior trying to impress people with talk of power and money are typically fakes or uninteresting.

I also would love to see that Quote from CNC for $6500 to $8500 USD ..Wow
For 8.5k usd, i would rebuild his motor/transmission/rear diff and the front end...lol
Got to give these dealers credit to get 20k for a Gremlin.I don't care how many miles it has on it.
It sounds like Roy is a nice guy and was trying to make this guy happy. If i was Roy i would of told the guy to F/off you didn't buy the car from me.

Just read the thread- great entertainment. It always amazes me how quickly a large group of (smart) imperfect individuals can ferret out the truth. I guess that is the idea behind juries.
By the way, OP, if you are still reading, you can get a power steering box, upper and lower ball joints, tie rod ends, and front wheel bearings for a Gremlin for a total of under $300 (easy, maybe $200 if you search). It'll still handle horribly, but that's how it's supposed to feel.
Roy, kudos to you for dealing with this in a professional manner. Not many would have responded as you have. I haven't bought a car from you, but certainly would based on this alone.

I hope someone chokes on a certain "$1000" payment. Dealt with Roy several years ago (sold him a 2003 Murci). Straight as they come. Hard to believe he had to send the OP a penny. Once again, it speaks volumes as to a certain mentality that exists on the 'left coast'. Sad.

    ^ Left Coast: Please stop.

what speaks volumes also is why anyone would interject themselves -- 'straight shooter' or not -- into a transaction with a single dime when they obviously had no true dog in the game.

'left coast [loons]' as many would like to allude are mostly responsible for a large amount of NA's exotic transactions [eg, CA].

The logic that is sad here is someone throwing money towards someone for [sorry] absolutely no reason. Scared of the inter-webs sullying someone's name: Not likely. There is just now, in my re-reading all this, more to the story and I'm not getting a good taste from either Roy or CNC

This was a simple business deal [so we were first told] and done [so we were told] and it somehow got skewed all over the place.

Pick your side if you wish but don't drag us 'left coasties' into your equation.

PS: I believe the OP is not mature either, but there is absolutely more to this story and it's been exampled by Roy's own admission.

The reason the primary people are not chiming in, is there is a non-disclosure on the deal aka $1,000 and a crappy 'platinum' Gremlin where all have agreed to just move along.

    let he flames begin.

    Rik,
I'd guess what I find interesting is CNC's service quoted $6500-8500 per OP for a front end on a Gremlin??

I'd guess if I wanted to stay friendly with CNC that does huge volume, I'd toss in a grand to shut the guy up since he's screaming. Cheaper than arguing over $6500 with a screamer.

Personally, you can get a Jiffy Lube to build you most of a new Gremlin chassis for $500 or less, and you can probably buy a parts car that runs for the other $500.

Here's Roy's own post whittled down:

How in the **** do you figure that Roy "interjected" himself into the situation??????? Did you even read the thread? The OP asked if anyone had ever had a deal with Cat's Exotics go bad. When he didn't get the responses he wanted he started lashing out at members here and making veiled accusations toward Roy's business, without ever providing any details whatsoever. Turns out that, according to Roy at least, the OP had threatened to ruin him on social media, and it is a very logical assumption to figure that he was trying to use that and his post here to extort a settlement from Roy.

Roy made one, and only one, post in this thread after it had been active for a while. Amazingly, while he apparently provided proof to Rob that the steering issues were disclosed in the inspection report, he did not even post that here. If faced with having our name and reputation threatened by someone who didn't even buy a car from us, I'm betting most of us here would have posted that inspection post for all to see, and more.

As it is, Roy explained his side and bowed out like a true gentleman. He should be applauded for the way he handled a situation was none of his doing, not accused of "interjecting" himself. If you can't understand that see more at "Left Coast Mindset".

Don't knock it until you've tried it. A longer wheel base, otherwise same chassis, Hornet survived my youthful abuse, really, really bad abuse and never skipped a beat. Gremlins are cute to many especially those with a second X chromosome. Certainly no chick magnet in it's day but I'll bet a nice example brings smiles all around today. $23k($30 fixed!) worth of smiles, maybe not.
I can't believe CNC had the stones to ask so much money for it, then to quote Ferrari service prices to fix the little bugger. Rik, I too smell a rat but the OP sounds like the type that just asks for a hosing.
