It has so much Jeep styling it hard not to concede its simply a face lifted Cherokee.

    Very sad day for Maserati.

I'm not seeing Jeep styling at all? I do prefer the Alfa one.

But ... assuming that these are real here is a comparison with the 2015 QX60 Infiniti. I think the Maserati is better looking. They are somewhat similar. Similar to the QX70 too ...

    Gigantic jelly beans.

I have just watched the live streamed unveiling of the Levante at the Geneva car show. It looks like a very impressive car!

... and for some reason - has the rear light design been changed slightly? - it looked better than in the first batch of pictures.

Looks like a warmed-over Buick suv to me. Portholes are so 1950s...

Just a bit of an FYI. Buick copied them from Maserati which used them as a functional design feature in the late 40's. They are still functional today.

Never knew that. Thanks for explaining. So, Buick is the impostor.

I have been told by someone at Maserati, who has spoken with one of the test drivers, and been told that the handling of the Levante is "out of this world", and that it left a Cayenne for dead.

The British press seems to love it, that's saying a lot as they usually trash Maserati products and know a thing or two about SUV's.

On a track, the deployment of this armoury of cornering controls is pretty impressive in the diesel, and aboard the 424bhp petrol V6 not far short of spectacular. Of which more shortly. For all versions, Maserati’s aim was to make the Levante easy to drive fast, unintimidating and viceless. And on FCA’s more demanding, long test circuit at Balocco it’s all of these things and more, at least in the dry. The Levante’s grip, body control, willingness to turn in and willingness to change direction mid bend soon have you forgetting that you’re riding high aboard an SUV. Instead, the Levante feels like a giant, fine-mannered, rear-drive hot hatch.

A very generic, anonymous looking people/grocery hauler adorned with what used to be a very revered badge. Too bad it has come to this.

Too much romance, besides Maserati products of the '70, '80 and '90 were far from glorious.

It's good to see brands like Maserati and Jaguar have survived and are competative again.

Good reviews all over the UK press. I've kept my order in place despite finding there is no petrol version for the UK in year one. I don't think they have many pre-orders so far.

Seems like most Maserati's are slow starters when it comes to sales and build momentum and popularity.

I guess people are waiting to see if it's actually any good? Competition in this segment is fierce and much more populated than it was a few years back.

Couldn't agree more. They had some really harsh years with little product.

I dunno I happen to think my Bora is pretty damn glorious. I don't remember the Lamborghini or Ferrari products of the time being any more so just different. I have also enjoyed my 80's Biturbo a lot.

But all these companies are in light years different marketplaces and technologies now.

Maserati will not be allowed to produce Ferrari or Lamborghini level cars today even if they were capable of it.

    So such comparisons are silly.

Maserati is now a luxury car maker. The SUV will fit the market management wants them to be in. Ferrari is high end sportscars and Alfa middle range touring/sportscars with Maserati making high performance German luxury cars with a soul.

If you want a Maserai/Ferrari you have to go back a few years and buy one that was designed by Ferrari and produced under Ferrari ownership. Most of the market does not want a car like that so Maserati Americanized their thinking and started building cars as big as sporty trucks:), and guess what...sales went way up.

" There’s more outright grip, and because the rear tyres are wider the balance remains more neutral, but it still has poise where more musclebound SUVs like the Range Rover Sport and Cayenne can feel numb and flat-footed. Of course it’s the quicker and more exciting car, but far from overshadowing the 275, the 430 merely underlines the inherent rightness to be found in both models "

Maserati put that V8 Biturbo in there!!!

Well, judging from that review it seems that the V6 petrol is just fine for the car. Do you think a V8 is needed to succeed in the US market?

I don't have a PHD in market research to answer that correctly but I was told by Ferrari-Maserati Quebec President that there would only be a V6TT because the V8's represented such a small percentage of overall sales.

That being said, Range Rover and Germans all have one powerful V8 model. It would be nice to see a 550hp+ V8 in the Levante for bragging rights and to make a statement.

    What's your take?
