That is one of my all time favorite colour combinations. Grigio Titanio over Bordeaux Daytonas with Nero carpet and Bordeaux leather rear deck. Late model too so you get all the updates plus the bright 250 GT style grille that looks so right with the modular wheels.

This car has seen some use (and why not!) but the dash leather shrinkage means an expensive retrim is in order and my suspicion is that when the dash is like that, there will be many other signed of UV damage to leather and rubber/plastic parts that may be enough to make someone think twice but it would boil down to questions about time and money to achieve 'perfection', if that is the ultimate goal.

    Hi,

Agree, if only it were a 6-speed! ;) But are those Daytona-style seats and the interior leather really "Bordeaux" or is that leather just "Red"? Like Connolly VM.3171 used to be just "Red" or "Rosso", right?

Somebody knows for sure, Bordeaux or Burgundy or Wine red ("Maroon") VM.893 is much darker, but I am not so familiar with the more modern colours. Yet. :)

    Cheers,

They are 100% Daytonas and I would bet that it is the Bordeaux (wine red) leather colour that we were all talking about on another recent thread.

This car also scores aesthetic points for no shields and then we come to the issue of caliper colour.... I would favour Argento on an Argento car but Nero looks great here. So what if it doesn't have FHP - the pros and cons of which are a matter of taste and intended use on a late model car.

Pekka- They are Bordeaux, just like we have been explaining to you. There was no Rosso leather available on Maranellos unless it was special ordered.

That is a nice 575M, and the only reason for the low price is, for a Ferrari, the relatively high mileage. A 2004 Porsche with that kind of mileage would not even be worth a mention of mileage.

I inquired about the car. Apparently it is a one owner car but there are no service records. I'm told there was some sort of repair to the rear bumper. All tools, keys, books are still with the car. His last emailed indicated there may already be a deal pending.

Seems like they have it priced about right for a car that may need some TLC.

And FYI, this car is exactly half the price of the Argento 2004 575 w/ FHP at Ferrari of Atlanta.

    Hi Terry,

I believe you, but it's hard to do, as the old Connolly colours I am used to were so different. I have seen your modern samples in a box, but still have trouble seeing these reds the right way. My 1995 456 GT has a Red interior for sure and I think it matches the classic VM.3197 perfectly, but I think the later reds were then lighter in tone, but as I have no samples, I can not compare them. Digital photos are really difficult with these colours, like red, as the colour balance and contrast depends so much on lighting.

    Cheers,

    Pekka T.
    Fin.

Ps. Or can I find out from somewhere what the actual name and coloir code for my 456 GT interior is???

If there was just one owner, is it not strange that the service history is unknown??
If the Service book comes with the car, surely there are stamps inside it from the service?

Ok, so not all workshops stamp the book. Mine is stamped, and we did call the workshop to check out the car after we got it delivered.

I am not sure if I would buy a car this expensive without a service history.

Isn't a car only as good as its last service? (within reason)

    +1!

As I am not a mechanic.
To buy a car like that, even with a comprehensive checkup by a specialist, I would still feel the need to replace the belts and other components that should have been replaced on a schedule.
Quite an expensive exercise on a Ferrari.
I rather spend more and get a car with a proper history and in a better condition ( leather specially)
The difference is not that great.
In fack, that is what I did myself. Bought a unmolested, fully serviced car with known history from day one.
When we had over the mechanic from the US, he gave the car a very goid verdict!

I wouldn't put too much stock in the smarmy description. "Smooth gear shifts are achieved thanks to tha powerful engine."???? Maybe the car comes with a cloth diaper and a bottle of Windex.

Let me pose a hypothetical.... You take a car like this one, which appears to be discounted because it needs some work. You have a thorough PPI that checks out. After you get it you have an engine out major service done and address any other issues you find. You own the car for a period of time, say 7-10 years, take excellent care of it, and you have no other major problems. Upon resale, obviously there will be a discount over a car with perfect service records, but is it really that big of a deal?

I am setting aside the cosmetic issues in this scenario.

Some evidence about oil changes (also gearbox) in reasonable sequence I need to see, not only the last service record.
    You all know why. :)

A PPI with a good report, clean CarFax and a full $5-10K service. Good to go. The price is low. The PPI will speak well enough to the service history...

    Plus 5K interior work.
It adds up..... Getting close to a car with fully known history, is it not? But the value is not the same, if you decide to sell in a year or two. As it still has a serious lack of history!

As I mentioned earlier, there is a 2004 Argento 575 at Ferrari of Atlanta and they are asking $170k. So twice the price of this one. Granted, the Atlanta car has FHP, but otherwise they are pretty similar. Point being, I think with the discounted price you have some room to get it sorted without being upside down. All hypothetical of course, this car could have some serious problems that aren't evident.

There is no engine out major service on any of the 65 degree V12s. You can even pull the heads with the engine installed. There is really no major service on any of them, just a belt change at 5 year intervals. On the 456/456M, there is also a valve clearance adjustment at mileage intervals. The major service term is more applicable to Ferraris that need to have the engine removed for a cambelt change (Boxers, TRs, 348s, F355s). Newer cambelt Ferraris and the 308-328 series have provisions for belt changes without removing the engine.

On the 575M, you can replace the cam seals without removing the cams, a big advance over the 550 and 456/456M.

The reason for the low price on this 575M has nothing to do with servicing and everything to do with mileage.

Then it's likely a good deal. These cars are supposed to be driven. I bought mine 8 years ago with 32K on the clock and I've got 63K+ on it now...
