We learn something new every day. Apparently there are assorted media that thoseoutfits can use. I'll ask my cousin if he can find out what his buddy used to make mine. Greg
There are a number of materials that they have to pick from, one of them is specifically designed for toughness. ULTEM 9085 is the material I had your visor clip made from. It can be used to make prototype springs, a good fit for a visor clip. This is what was used on mine. My cousin is looking into producing them in case your shop fails. Greg
got the second sample with my part. that tells me that they cannot do the job. took my $1,000 knowing they could not make the job. these samples are some what flexible. but a long way from what I expected. I told them about the suggested compound. they claim their machine will not use that compound
I just got a lead for a possible other way/material;will let you all know;and yes, it has to be flexible. Am also looking at same time to have door speaker grills done. Anyone else also interested in those?
Good day Klaus, I would be interested in the door speaker grills. I had planned on machining them out of Aluminum. but would prefer something closer to the original. Cheers, Sam
Hi Klaus, I'm also interested in a pair of door speaker grills. My 365 has big, sticky out pioneer speakers in place of the grills which look pretty awful. They've no doubt been on the car since the 80's as the car was in a Swedish collection since 1985 until I bought it 2 years ago.
This is the clip made for me on a 3-D printer. I know it fits my '84 and probably fits other years as well. My engineer cousin can sell these to anyone for $146.00 each. He can also reproduce whatever other styles exist if given a sample to copy. Their price would be the same. I did not ask whether other colors are possible. Please PM me and I'll send you his contact information. Greg Image Unavailable, Please Login
I once co-drove an enduro at Mosport in a friend's Elva Courier that was still being "sorted" to be kind! The car handled beautifully in right hand turns but for some reason was prone to snap oversteer in left hand turns. Scariest race car that I have ever driven! Turn 2, a double apex downhill off camber turn that is a signature turn at Mosport that is challenging under any conditions, was particularly fun!
Good day Klaus, Just to be clear... you are no longer going to make the (door panel) speaker grills? If not, then I will move forward on the direction I was going... and if they turn out well I will sell some extras to help recover the NRE costs. Cheers, Sam
All, I am the guy who did the 3-D scan and prototype run of the ones shown in post #21. Those are my pics. I offered the STL file to somebody ................. The STL file is what the 3D printer needs to print these. Ones shown were printed on high quality machine in natural ABS work great. I believe I still have the STL file. The most costly aspect is the 3D scan and creation of the STL file. Material and run costs are very little. very easy to have a run of these made. As far as the speaker grilles, I purchased from a guy here on F chat a whil eago a set which were machined from aluminum, properly prepped, then painted semi gloss black. Works out way better than plastic. Inexpensive in quantities if machined. Godspeed! Dave
Good day Dave, This was also my planned approach. Do you recall who you purchased the grills from and the approximate cost? Also, can you post a pic of the result? Thanks in advance! Cheers, Sam
