This includes diesel on all equipment, generators, shredders, etc. in California the CARB restrictions are very strict and even operation of equipment is restricted to so many hours per year..per the data logs...a lot of perfectly good equipment headed out of state...and country
"In California, for example, ALL big diesel trucks will have to comply with 2010 standards within 5 years. The shakeup in commercial diesels is bigger than what's going on with passenger cars."

Even Marine diesels. Fleet operators and equipment operators in California have been spending big bucks replacing perfectly good equipment all so it can be sold on the other side of the state line so it can pollute different air.

Most do not understand the connection between VW and Bugatti. And it appears, in the VW culture, Bugatti is independent.

Ι saw the program for 2016 and Bugatti will be there, presenting the new Chiron.

Not Bugatti, but a VW insider said they are considering selling Lambo, Bentley, and/or Ducati if they need more funds than they can secure to pay the fines for the scandal. VW later came out and are denying this.

That would be a catastrophic movement.

    Might be good for Lambo.

Lots of journalists have discussed Lambo's "softening" since the Audi acquisition. It's worked its own kind of wonders, no doubt, but I'd just like to see what direction they might go outside of that box.

A creative reboot, if you will.

In that way yes, maybe Lambo will find again the raw character.

Funny how someone had no problem with illegally imported polluting cars but now turns tail.
He has never had a Ferrari or any other expensive car. A troll living on his computer in the US. What a fraud!
Love the net, you never know exZackly who lurks out there.

By the same account, many years ago people should have stopped buying GM products, Toyota, Ford, Nissan, etc...

Do you see where your knee-jerk reaction can lead you?

You will be safe only on a bicycle!!! LOL

    Exactly !!

The Chinese are slowly buying into European car makers (Volvo, Peugeot/Citroen, SAAB, MG, Borgward, etc...) and the Indians have already started their move with Jaguar-Land Rover.

But, for a luxury car like the Bugatti, I could see investors from the Gulf States queeuing up to buy the brand. They already have Aston Martin and large portfolio of shares in German car companies.

If governments were so interested in reducing global warming and air pollution, they would first cease encouraging low-cost flights, ground their air forces and stop flying their officials everywhere in the world on any occasion for meetings that could be replaced by tele-conferences.

Since they don't bother, but prefer to crucify the motorists instead, I don't give a damn about their ecological concerns.

Don't get me started about the hypocrites living in ivory towers !!!

In London England, you can follow the council garbage trucks and the buses by the cloud of diesel smoke they leave behind, but politicians already charge us $16 per day and want to ban the ordinarry man to drive his car in town!

There is one law for them, and another law for us.

    Did I read that right?

In California, 2010 standards will be applied 10 years late?

California is requiring every big diesel truck/bus to be fitted with a PM filter and a 2010 model year or newer engine according to a schedule determined by the age of the vehicle. Older vehicles have to be converted first.

The details are complicated but the point is that the claim that "nobody is forcing stringent emissions controls" on big trucks couldn't be further from the truth.

For example, just 4 days from now, every 1995 and older big rig in California will be required to have a 2010MY or newer engine.

Bugatti ain't going any where, either is vw. Do you honestly think a company as large as Volkswagen Audi group, doesn't have government people on the pay roll?

I think that nothing short of WWIII could destroy VW. They will sail over the diesel storm, lose a few millions and be back in profit before long. That's what I predict.

Their recall for fixing the diesel engines if pretty well orchestrated here in Europe, from what I can see, and with their large footprint, wide range over several brands and usually a very good dealer network, I cannot see any other car maker able to compete against them in Europe.

    its retroactive.

So a piece of machinery will have to meet the regualtions of a 2010 even if it was a 1995. Previously a 1995 only had to live up to its 1995 emissions. Now the 1995 will have to be upgraded to run at 2010 levels...

except... the fines alone are in the billions... Let alone the repairs... Plus the ancillary collateral damage... The brand has been damaged... they will spend millions rebuilding their reputation (whether they need to or not... their marketing team will try to get them to spend the millions)... Also don't forget the stock value that has taken it in the shorts. All of the lost time... Growth etc...

This is a major blow. Will it cripple a major company... who knows... but for sure they won't be dusting off their shoulders like nothing happened.
