What was your first performance car that you started out with? This would be good to know so I'm not alone. I'm sure a lot of you had made upgrades throughout the years. For right now all I could afford is an 87 to 93 Ford Mustang. Eventually upgrade and get a Porsche 911. A Ferrari 360 Modena would be nice as well.

I got a 1969 Corvette when I was 19 years old in 1982. I paid $6800 for it. Had it for 3 years, got married, and sold it. Long dry spell until I got a '67 Pontiac GTO in 2005, an '88 Ferrari 328 in 2006, and this year I got an '07 Aston Martin V8 Vantage. I still have those 3 cars. But now I'm an old fart.

First sports car was a 1986 300zx turbo. I put a 5 speed and turbo booster in her. Still runs great but unfortunately the door handles are broken. I have to jump in Batman style. I still LOVE this car. Had 18 years now.

First was a 1980 z28, folled by a toyota supra 84 and then a 91 vette. To be honest while they were fun, none of them were true performace cars we we know the term today.

Well the vette was aero stable and once modified to produce real power went well, but even then felt like a loose collection of parts going in the same direction.

On a budget a flying miata seems near impossible to beat, proper steering proper brakes and lots of go. Any subie wrx is a good bet too.

Mine was a '63 Austin Healey Sprite. Worked through a ton of failures - clutch, starter, brakes, misc. electrics -during my ownership and it left me stranded a few times, but overall it was great fun. Not sure I would feel the same today though.

First car was a Miata. At 15 I borrowed and crashed my Dad's 928. No damage to the car, just went flying through a farm field. Got grounded and couldn't get my license until 17. Guess my Dad wasn't too mad, he bought the Miata before it officially came out. I ended buying a 85 Vette and then sold the Miata. The Vette turned me off American cars forever! 92 bought a 88 928S4.

My first car (for 12 years) was a Ford Pinto. Makes me appreciate everything I drive now, even rental cars. First car after that was a 1985 Ford Mustang GT. (Although I have to admit the Pinto was heavily modified, and during the smog strangled late 70's it would run with quite a number of more highly regarded vehicles.)

+1, 400/4spd hard top, black on tan (later changed to black on black). Restored it, sold it to a buddy and it was then stolen, recovered, and now sits in pieces. Wish I had kept it.
