How many of you drive in sport mode? I love it given sharpened throttle response, tightened suspension and faster shifts. Wondering if there are any cons/issues (i.e., increased gas consumption) as a result of driving in sport mode as a default setting. I have glanced through the thread history but did not find a relevant thread.

In the case of the non-manettino Ferraris, I think Sport mode is pretty much default for most of us. The exception being a long highway drive or over anticipated bumpy roads.

I would presume the gas consumption would be up, due to the higher revs; but probably minimal difference.

All Ferraris like to be "whipped", so I doubt there is anything significant, other than a less comfy ride.

The main difference is the faster shift times which alone is worth having the sports mode on all the time, even when driving in Auto mode (which I don't use). From a confortability point of view I actually do not feel much of a difference between standard and sport.

    Cheers, Stefan

I wait until I have 160 F oil temperature to select Sport. Slows down the shifts until everything is warm.

I only drive in sport. Never use auto either. The auto shifts are horrible!...in my opinion

Early 612, never use auto, always use sport. Taz says wait until warm, wait until warm :D

Ditto as most others. I drive in Sport, and never use Auto. I wait for the oil to heat up before I "push it a bit." I am still a novice, but enjoy it tremendously!

I was going to post a similar question. Having fully acclimatized myself with the car I flipped into Sport mode and its a completely different animal. The shifts are so much better. I can see Sport being my default setting from now on

    I never use AUTO.

I start with sport off, until I get out of my home community. Then switch to SPORT mode the remainder of the drive.

I keep the revs down, until the engine temps are at optimal levels.

Never use Auto. Ever. Always use sport and f1s after she is warm.

Interesting topic. To tell you the truth, on my 612 the "sport" button never felt like much.

I should give it another chance.

By reference, I have the DNA selector on my Alfa. On that one, it really changes the behavior of the car - maybe because by default its a much less special car than the 612.

Agreed. Never noticed too much difference in the 612 sport mode either. Not sure if my button was broken? The FF's sport button gave a subtle but noticeable difference in terms of gear shifts and more exhaust noise at certain revs, so I used it more often.

Switching off auto is the first thing I do in the car.

On the other hand, Maserati sports modes make a big difference.

VERY noticeable difference for me on the suspension feel. I always keep it in sport mode.

With a manual, Sport Mode just impacts the suspension. Definitely use Sport Mode unless on uneven pavement.

Agree ; sport mode makes a difference on my 06 HGTS -- shifting is smoother (faster) and suspension is tauter. In reality if you drive for a while shifting seems better even in normal mode or maybe it's just me? There is definitely more finesse involved in smooth paddle shifting with non DCT cars which kinda makes it more involved IMO

Surprised to see how many don't use the auto function... Anyhow on my manual you can definitely feel the difference in the suspension but to be honest I rarely use it...

I can't speak for F1-S 612s (Sessanta, OTO), since I have not driven one.

However, for F1-A cars, I can assure you AUTO is not ideal. The car bucks and shifting is rarely where you want it to be. When I first received my HGTS F1 612, I thought there was something wrong. Then I noticed the barely legible "AUTO" in red; I switched it off and the car was way better. :)

Sport mode also sharpens steering. It makes you a better driver... ;)
