Your right. Here is a picture that overdramatize's the size of sports cars now. Having that extra 1000+ lbs of weight when you hit a wall or another car does not help save your life. Put the safety equipment on, but get rid of a lot of electric and electronic crap on "lightweight" sports cars. Everyone seems to think you should have electric everything on every car. That is not the case and should not be. Some companies get that, but the Italians seem to be going the other way. Maserati makes cars as heavy as trucks used to be now(and so does Ferrari), and Alfa seems to be headed upward in weight also.

Somewhere between the size of the two cars would be great!!

They share stuff in infotainmemt with Chrysler so that helps. Probably the best thing they got from Chrylser was stuff like this along with a lot of data / testing in the US market to beef it up and make it more reliable.

I only hope the US dealer network is ready for the car. It's still pretty much a baby at the moment. When they bring this car in, people will expect them to be BMW and I'm afraid they will be rudely disappointed.

The infotainment is actually developed by magnetti marelli and I don't think the U Connect is from that supplier.

As for expecting the whole bmw dealership experience, it takes years of dedication and sales volume to build such an empire. The first Alfa Romeo clients will indeed be guinea pigs.

I don't even think jaguar dealer body will be ready when the redesigned xe, xf and new f pace arrive

The Giulia is the fastest sedan (Saloon) car around the Nordschleif. So Alfa/Masati/Ferrari did a pretty good job.

To keep this in context, the new Shelby GT Mustang did it over 10 seconds faster and the new hot rod Camaro around 5 seconds faster, but they are 2 door sedans.

i believe new Cadillac v series set record at nring

this alfa should be fantastic but they picked a very competitive niche to start out in. bmw, audi, mb have almost every base covered in sporting 4 doors. now Cadillac and alfa have to fight for the leftovers.

is it bmw 3 series size or 5?

looks like 3 sizes so better lose a lot of $ off usa sticker if hopes to compete with the established hot sedans here

Same length as the 4 series BMW. It is not much more $$ than the M4, but we do not have US prices yet for the Giulia. They will be lower than the Euro Giulia prices. I think the car looks to much like the M4, but otherwise you cannot complain about it when comparing it to a BMW. It is also faster than the M4.

I'm surpirsed about the width of the car. It's a 3 series competitor but it's wider than a current 5 series; 1873 vs. 1860mm.

Something that doesn't show on pictures.

They show the M4 front track as 1870mm on the BMW Euro website. The M4 is slightly lighter than the Giulia. They act like Audi is the competition, but they copied BMW. The engine is the big difference between the two cars, although they are in the same class.

    To answer those question marks??

M4 3300lbs lightest version-Giulia 3359lbs only version so far listed

    M4 in line 6- Giulia V6 90 degree

The car is a lot like the M4 in many ways. They must have used the M4 as a benchmark to beat, and they did it.

It beats the M4 at the Nurburgring.........

More engine info, to be released in December officially.....

Scoop: 2016 Alfa Romeo Giulia Diesel and Petrol Engines are Extremely Promising - autoevolution

"First there's an all-new 2.0 turbo petrol engine that will be offered in three flavors. 180 PS (178 bhp / 133 kW) will act as the starting point. A 250 PS (247 bhp / 184 kW) variant will also be offered, joined by a hell-bent for leather 330 PS (326 bhp / 243 kW) tune. But what about The Prodigy's favorite – the Diesel Power?

The 2016 Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan has some of that too. A 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel is going to be offered in three outputs: 135 PS (133 bhp / 99 kW), 180 PS (178 bhp / 133 kW), and 210 PS (207 bhp / 154 kW). Last but not least, a 3.0 V6 twin-turbo diesel will be available with 340 PS (335 bhp / 250 kW).

We hear that Alfa Romeo will officially confirm these powerplants in December, with the European market launch slated for February 2016. The first units to be produced will be animated by the 2.2-liter turbo diesel and the 3-liter twin-turbo V6 petrol engine exclusive to the Quadrifoglio Verde-badged super sedan."

It beats the M4 to my eyes by having an apealing dash and interior. The M4 is singularily uninteresting to drive for what it is, if the Alfa drive like ghibli or better, thats pretty enetrtaining..

Weight differences as stated are imaterial, but Italian published weights often bear little resemblance to reality.

The Alfa could be a more interesting road car to drive than the M4. Track times in sedans somewhat imaterial.

Lets see what build and durability is like. Dealer experience, they would do well to emulate lexus, prob wont be as good as jaguar which pretty much sucks in comparison to BMW.

Of course with VW imploding maybe Alfa diesels will give them a sales boost.

For those who have to have everything Alfa, a Giulia V6 Turbo high end resin model by BBR in 1/18th scale. I wonder if Alfa will give this model as a gift or option to owners?? I think they retail for over $300.00!!
