I've attended several of the RM London sales at Battersea. Despite the venue being in the UK, I saw/felt palpable electricity and genuine high energy at many of those very sales.
We could have shared a bed...only joking .....Yes a very dismal auction. The lack of quality in the older Ferrari was apparent. The series 2 330GT was not far off being a parts car in my opinion. The 365 GTC didnt sell......sadly forget the high bid Late 300's GBP ?? In the 20 or so lots I saw auctioned there were a fair number of No sales.
Which in my opinion is the true value of a Lusso today. I dont know that car but it looked very straight and detail correct......Paint was average though. Maybe some of the UK dealers who are touting Lussos at GBP 1.9M plus may be adjusting their prices this morning.............
What is your opinion on the 330/365 GTC market Paul. There is huge disparity between pricing on these
Did anyone stay long enough to see if the 365 GT 2+2 sold and if so, for what? And the Lancia B24S Convertible? thank you!
Its very difficult to be precise. I agree with you that prices are all over the place...... We have experienced such a strong market over the past few years that there are few good cars coming up for sale now.... I think the 365 GTC last night bid to its true value. I also think there is an artificial market created by certain dealers in many of these older Ferrari. The Lusso last night was a perfect example of this. It was a very nice car with a few paint blemishes but more importantly it was genuine. I see it sold for GBP 1.2 plus inc commissions which in my opinon is spot on. Compare that to some of the 'Shiny' offerings from certain dealers at GBP 1.9M and perhaps now they can see why their cars are not selling. If nothing else I think last night proved that this market has lost its craziness and is readjusting...Time will tell.
Thanks Paul, that was my thought. Market has found its level for now - same as the central London property market this year! Best, Henry
Not a bad price, relatively speaking (not bad as in, decent value for buyer). I will put it to the car auction experts since I'm more an expert in the general markets, but does it feel like the hype is wearing down now? I've noticed the tone of posts on here have become a bit more subdued or seem to be looking at prices and saying "hmm, thought would be higher..." across the forum.
Well Sir, I find this an interesting comment, especially since, just as an sideline observer, I have always (or at least for past 25+ years) been curious how these "market followers" actually confirm/verify these auction sales, including those "record breaking", for all being "real" ? I assume (hope?) they have better (long term?) follow-up methods than just relying on results provided by said companies or their "bed fellow"(?) media.
