Considered buying an original tool briefcase with tools for a pile of money. Ugh... Can't get there just yet. Anyone got one of these for a couple grand? It's killing me to pay $3,800!!
So... I called the seller back and talked to him for a while. Turns out, one of his jobs was a Hand Model! And guess who he ran into one day as he was hired to do a shoot? You guessed it...Jerry Seinfeld This guy was the inspiration for the episode when George was a Hand Model and Jerry wore the puffy shirt! What a kick. Oh yeah, I bought the tool kit. Check that box.
We took the 400i out for another run today. Clocked up another few hundred K's. 400i + open speed limit = Hope you are all enjoying your cars as much as we are ours. Cheers Al Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Not sure what the official interior colour is, but it is faded tan with green inserts at the moment. It could use a re-dye on the interior but we are having too much fun driving it at the moment. Outside is Pino Verde. Yes Simon, We are in the Alice - It does have some advantages. Cheers Al Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
During the course of re-doing everything in 46567, including mechanicals, we realized that despite the car's chassis covering approximately 22K miles, its rotors had seen better decades... Having already modified my 400i car extensively using parts bins from other manufacturers, I turned to this forum in hopes I could source an alternate source for rotors, but that would not be the case. I stumbled upon Christian's thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/365-gt4-2-2-400-412/473429-400-400i-brake-rotors-cheap.html We turned my rotors in the event that they could still be used but instead, I simply decided to pull the trigger since just about everything else in vehicle is new. So, I called Stacey at AW Italian and these came in! They weigh quite a bit but look how pretty they are, all shiny and stuff! Stacey was really cool and anyone considering buying rotors should do so soon, as they are already out of production with very limited supplies left. Call her for individual pricing! The calipers are ATE and same as many large BMW of the era, but the 400 rotors are thicker. This means pads are same shape as BMW pads but thinner. When I first ordered pads I got the normal BMW pads and they would not fit; got them swapped for correct ones. Good brake supplier knows the difference. Ken
I used the fixture I made, thanks to the instructions Verell Boaen sent me with the fuel line kit, to replace two of the lines from the WUR's and one of the injection units. Once I had the fixture made the process went quite well. I did these two as one of them was leaking. I would have done more of them but I will need more of the copper washers.
Phoned my mechanic yesterday,he's 1000 miles(as is the car)away from me. He informed me that after the green stuff came out of the sump-plug aperture, oil soon followed.....
Dunno Mitch, Parked it after last year's GG(a run down south, for me),my mechanic noticed a rustyish weap from the head gasket area, going along the side of the block on the, from the front,RHS. It had no bearing on the performance of the car. I decided that Marc should take the head off and sort it. The car is/was to have a carby rebuild anyway so..... At this point I'm not tooo concerned because the issue could be any number of issues,as I discussed briefly with WRXMike today. Watch this space...
Aside from rushing second gear once, it was a fun drive yesterday coming home from the shop and a full brake job. If you don't have the time just watch the last 30 seconds. I set my reserve too low dang-it! Really falling for this car. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXYunP--QT0
Scott. Out early. I heard that crunch. I have done s few myself. Mostly trying reverse. So when is the car shipping?
Yeah, and I know better than to rush it. I suppose holding the camera and trying to get the hot just so I got a bit excited. I have already made my mind up that we'll drop the tranny and go through it if she comes back home to Florida. My last 6 cars should load today or this evening. One is shipping from Indy and the other three are in LA.
Took the 400i out for another run today. It feels much nicer with the new Michelin XWX's fitted. We attended our local car club AGM then went on a short cruise around town hoping to meet up with the cars from Aussie Exotics which are in town this weekend but didn't come across them. I sure hope to see some of you in person at Pebble this week. If any need a place to sleep let me know. I rented a house in Carmel by the Sea
Thanks OttoB, There are a few pics in this thread - http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/365-gt4-2-2-400-412/436704-auction-melbourne-summer-ferrari-400i.html I also fitted new BPR8EIX spark plugs yesterday afternoon to see how they go if they are too cold I have a set of BPR7EIX's to go in. It went well on the run afterwards but I'm yet to pull a plug & see how it looks. Heads cracked...err,that is from block...hopefully NOT what the rest of you thought. BUT corroded to the studs...so long process of trying to lube them free.
The 365 and 400 used different casting Al. Grades. Those studs will be hell if in the 365. There is a way. If you find a shop with a, 'electronic disintegrater' it is an easy job.
