Carobu Mondial 8 Make-Over Project Apologies if this has already been mentioned here before (if so, Ive simply missed it), but has anyone else been following the 1982 Mondial 8 make-over project over on Carobus website? Their stated project overview plans are to install one of their 3.5 liter big bore stroker engine kits, along with updated 18 wheels and corresponding spring / shock /suspension work. Four (4) installments have been posted to date. Link: http://www.carobu.com/html/358rr_mondial.html Im extremely pleased that Carobu is using a Mondial 8 as their starting point for this project, as both this engine (the Rodney Dangerfield 2Vi) and this model/year seem to be frequently cited as the least-appreciated combination that Ferrari has made in the recent past. Itll be great to see this often-criticized engine and model receive the recognition that a proper Ferrari deserves. By any chance does this car belong to anyone who is a member here? Cheers - DM P.S. - Since we have been discussing ways to improve the content of Forza magazine lately in other threads, this project strikes me as an outstanding example of the type of article which Forza could easily adapt as a feature, highlighted over the course of several issues.
That is great! Thank you for the link. I'll will be checking the site often to see if they have posted any updates...
love those wheels, been considering them for an upgrade to my '89T but theres a few other things i need before spending 4.5k on wheels. Wish they were less.
I was just looking at the Carobu site and noticed this project. A search show's it's been mentioned here before, http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=313824&highlight=Carobu+mondial Seems like a pretty cool project, albeit ambitious. I was glad to see they chose the Mondial since it seems like a great platform to tweak. Alas there are no updates after 2010. http://www.carobu.com/Project%20Cars/Mondial%20358RR.html
Since no one seems to know, I called Carobu to discuss the project with them. They're still in the middle of developing the project. At the moment, they're working on a larger brake package to help compensate for all that extra power. I'm told they're thinking this will bring somewhere in the neighborhood of 350hp, and it will be available in two stages. Stage 1 will use the original CIS injection system, and stage two will use an EFI system.
What a cool car. It's not stock, but looks like it would be a fun driver! Ferrari Mondial 358RR | eBay 2cam Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I know those wheels from some print ad that I've seen - - but damn it, I can't find it just now. The name starts with a "T", like "Trofeo" ???? And yes, the car looks awesome. While stock & pure, it's not ........... it looks like it could be a bit of kick ass fun!!! Cheers, Hank
Trepezzo? http://www.carobu.com/Parts%20Catalog/308%20GTB-GTS-GT4/308%20Razzo%20Rosso%20WBS%20Price%20List.pdf
I have one of those engines in my 308. Holy crap is there a MAJOR difference in torque. I'll be interested in what the car goes for. Those engine mods are NOT cheap!...some of the best money I ever spent though. If you want a fast Mondial, this is probably the most economical way to get one.
The story on the wheels can be found in two parts here: http://www.carobu.com/Project%20Cars/Mondial%20358RR/Mondial_8_diary_April_2010-4.pdf http://www.carobu.com/Project%20Cars/Mondial%20358RR/Mondial_8_diary_June_2010-1.pdf
just a thought, why would you want it as very similar figures can be had buying a "t"? Ok, I can see it when the price would be less .... will be interesting to watch, cheers braq
For starters, the complexity of an 8 is probably half compared to a t. No power steering, three-way suspension, etc. Just a basic high-power 2+2 sports car instead (this 358RR).
I'm watching this auction. It's similar to my Mondial in that it's heavily (and professionally) modified, although it has a little more HP. I'm interested to see what it goes for. Also, who gives a crap if it's not stock? It's better than stock. Trust me, if you were given the choice between a Mondial with that much horsepower and a regular Mondial, I promise you'd take the "outlaw" car. One drive and you wouldn't even look back.
