Ferrari of New England just sold a 92 with 8k on it for 340k in one week.

I was surprised by this and wonder if the price gap between 92-94 will shrink - Denver also just sold a 94 for around the same.

Prices on these cars have appreciated rapidly, however with 408 North American cars, and estimating 200 nice cars in North America today, combined with more and more going into collections this model is exceedingly rare.

The factors for the rise: the generation that adores these cars coming into the earning years, combined with the beautiful & iconic coach work with a fabulous chassis, an amazing motor - when u open up that engine compartment the engine is an event it self.

I really think it is the "next" car that will significantly outpace the appreciation compared to many other models, marques, collector cars.

    Best,

    Andrew

I doubt it - just like the M trades at a premium to the 94 512tr, the 94 512tr will continue to trade at a premium to the pre 94s. I know a 94 owner who has turned down a brokers offer in almost the mid 4s. Red-tan with 6k miles.

and as much as I don't agree with the market it does seem the Ms are over 500k for low mile clean ones

I have had a 94 and currently have a 93, I can tell no difference at all and I will be upgrading my diff next major - I think comparing the uber rare next model M to the the 94 isn't a proper analogy. I agree the 94 will always be a premium and the most desirable to have just as many last model cars are, however the delta in the mkt in regards to 92 & 93 vs 94 the past 24 months will shrink.

I'm just reporting facts sprinkled with opinion as I was at an event at FNE yesterday and was surprised they sold the 512 tr that quickly, and at the same price as the 94 @ Ferrari of Denver.

It does not surprise me at all someone offered 450k + for a 512 TR, it will soon be the norm.

That's crazy. I guess F512M's are about to surpass the Dino as predicted by some here. Notice how the Dino starts to plateau at precisely the same time the M's begins their meteoric rise. Could we have a situation where Dino owners are recognizing the top and migrating into cars with more potential?

    EDIT:
I know next to nothing about the Dino or its market

not really - chairs and flairs dinos are 600k cars apparently and clean non chairs and flair cars are still above 400K - id compare the pre 94 512trs to non chairs and flairs dinos - I think theyre separate and exclusive form each other

I think in future 92, 93 or 94 is not that important,
    important is the condition! :)

    Perhaps i'm wrong.

But i would prefer a 512TR with a fresh diff upgrade over a original equiped 92 or a original 94 with the 512M diff.

Ok, the production numbers of the 94 is very low.

Perhaps in future little details get in the focus, an early 92 with the testarossa badge and 92 and early 93 with the pininfarina badge.

I regret a little bit not to buy a 94 512TR from a friend last year...
    pininfarina badge also

there's no reason for the spread to change in the future - why wld it if it continues to exist today 20 years later? dino chairs and flairs spread continues to exist 40+ years later. if u ask me the chairs and flairs delta is retarded - zero impact on mechanics/ function. atleast with the 512tr the 94 has mechanical updates/advantages.

I think the mechanical updates in the 94 512TR are great but a freshly upgraded 92/93 is perhaps technical better.

Here in Germany 92, 93 and 94 were the last 10 years on the same level and top 512TR got expensive the last 6 month, unattached from the year.

But i see the 94 512TR in the US is highly coveted.

But aesthetically they are nearly identical, the chairs and Flairs is a significant visual differance, the 512 has a few minor mechanical changes and the big one with the upgraded diff - I agree that the 94 deserves a premium, however in the future I think it will compress.

I'll say it again, I was also surprised that the 92 with more miles then the 94 at Denver went for the same money.

I feel the astute EU Market will be a precursor for the U.S. mkt.

Artificially low numbers of both 512TR and M officially imported into the USA I believe, and maybe that creates sub markets like 94 TR that don't really exist in Europe.

M is certainly unusual among modern F cars in that US values outstrip Europe by a clear margin. My 11,000 mile 512M is maybe 380k US$ at current rates sold here in UK. Quite a lot more if one of the 75 official US models in US.

I am very proud to have been a "custodian" of a 1-owner, 1994 512TR in Rosso Corsa.

I bought the car years ago because I saw the gem in a '94 car as something even rarer and more desirable than an M.

I am also very proud to be humble enough to say I am the biggest idiot I know for not keeping the thing :(

I know of a 10k mile M that just sold in the mid 500's. They are moving up. Ive only had my 94 TR for a couple of weeks, and have had it out a few times. It is a fantastic car, but the weather has been getting better and I have been enjoying the 550 Barchetta.

    Hello All,

I understand the desirability of a low mile car, being close to original as possible. I also understand people keeping thew miles off the car to protect their investment in the car. I hope you can understand my desire to drive the 512TR as much as I can:

    a few comments....
    - first off, i am glad i bought mine in rome in 2000 for considerably less
    - secondly, i am glad i have driven it about 30,000 km over the last 15 years, all across europe and back, tracked it, v-maxed it, moved with it 3 times.
    - thirdly i am glad i still own it.

now, i need to remind you all of one important reality.....my 92 512tr currently residing in the uk, will be eligible to be imported into the usa in about 2 years. the exclusivity and premium of original usa cars will not last once the model is fully fungible ww. just see what is happening with f40's. and nobody can tell me that they would prefer a usa version to a euro version of 512tr - stupid seat belt arrangement being my foremost dislike.

That's a great point Ross - I hate the mouse belts as well. While it is not impossible, I can't imagine the time & cost needed for a Euro car to pass smog here in California.

Ross - What are these going for in the UK and the EU?

edit* I just looked and they seem to be more in the EU and most have loads of miles (USA hates that as you know)? How would that impact the prices in our MKT, and what kind of tax do you have to pay getting a car in?

    Thanks

After 25 years, there is no more dot or EPA issues. You pay import duty and the usual costs to license.

Yes the euro cars have some miles, but theses cars are not brittle.
You live once guys. Nobody lies on their deathbed and wishes his Ferrari had fewer miles on the clock.

We all get this and the miles debate has been argued ad nauseum, however low miles cars have and will always bring a large premium.

It looks like these prices are the same however - and with only 2000 cars produced the 512 TR is rare. I don't see that effecting prices in the USA/world at all - if anything it could increase them.

by dint of a friend of mine recently buying a 512tr after having looked at several and asking my opinion of them, i can tell you that the prices were a lot lower than these last ones sold in the usa. hence my statement above.

yes it is a relatively rare care on ww basis, but the usa only portion currently enjoys a big of exclusivity which it wont in a couple years. the ww prices will equalize somewhat, and only be dependent on the usual variables of condition, mileage, maintenance history etc. thats all i am saying.

if they keep going up i am somewhat pleased because i own one, but i will also be happy that i have driven mine before the insurance premiums became extortionate.

and the other thing i always say is that nobody cares how many miles are on a 250gto - ie after a while mileage does not matter. mine has 46k km or roughly 30k miles, which may seem big to some, but in the big scheme of things is nothing special.
