What an embarrassingly ignorant and stupid comment.

What if he had found it, won it, or inherited it ? His cost would then be "0"; how much should he be 'allowed' to ask for it in one of these instances?

    Embarrassing.......

Everyone is entitled to ask whatever he wants. Same thing applies for the cars.

I dunno, Not an unreasonable question, but perhaps worded in such a way as to raise the hackles of folks here.

I think, had it been my listing, that I would not have posted the receipt showing what I paid for it. (Unless it was MUCH MORE than the asking price here.)

But correctly, sellers can set a price, but ultimately the buyer determines the final price.

It is a very unreasonable question.

What I paid for something that I am selling is irrelevant.

Do you post the bills of sale for your cars when you sell them?

Reminds me of my kids when they find one of their baseball cards in a catalog and they run to me saying Dad, look this card is worth $x.xx. No, because the book says $x.xx means nothing, it is worth whatever someone is willing to pay!

    Chris.

Could not disagree more. He put the issue on the table by posting the amount he paid in a picture. In all fairness, that opens the door for the discussion.

And yes, I have been asked on many occasions what I paid for an item I'm trying to sell, and I've responded in different ways depending on the situation.

I have been asked what I paid for a car when I went to sell it. Question didn't bother me at all. Ditto a house, and a lawn mower, carpet, and many other items. I've shown window stickers to prospective buyers, and in one instance, the entire book full of repairs and restoration costs on a car. It's not irrelevant if the buyer wants to make it relevant. Can't sell something without a buyer, right?

I think he posted the remark badly, but the question is certainly a fair one. And it's one that ANY seller can simply refuse to answer. "I'd prefer not to have that factor into the discussion." Or, perhaps if you were the seller based on your post above, "It's none of your business what I paid for it! Do you want it, or not?" :D

You are correct that it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it, and not a penny more.

I see from your ebay listing that you accepted a "best offer" and sold the watch. How can you be sure you accepted the "best offer" when you never even contacted me back (after multiple pm's here) to see what my offer was going to be?

    Food for thought.....
