Lots of other great opportunities, but I'm still holding out hope for this year's N24.

Jim, any news toward your start at the 24h? GT3s and similar cars are currently banned due to the tragic accident during the last VLN. Not sure yet if the big GTs will be allowed to start in May, fingers crossed. It's those who make this race so special.

as I read it (via google translate ), GT3 cars are still banned from the 'Ring, but teams are given an extended deadline for entering cars in slower classes without penalty?

We believe changes will be made and we and other GT3's will be racing this weekend.

SCG 003 is the newest fastest car around the Ring

Nurburgring Nordschleife GT3 ban lifted after crash prompts changes

Nurburgring Nordschleife GT3 ban lifted after crash prompts changes - GT news - AUTOSPORT.com

"In order to prevent cars from getting airborne, the speed at critical locations Flugplatz, Schwedenkreuz and Antoniusbuche will be reduced via a speed limit of 200 km/h (124mph) a few hundred metres before those areas and 250km/h (155mph) on the Dottinger Hohe straight.
Speed limits will be enforced by GPS with heavy fines in place for infringements, as it already the case for yellow flags. Once cars have passed the speed limit zone, acceleration will be allowed again."

I am really curious to see how the drivers will stick to that and the authorities will enforce it.

Hans Stuck seems to announce some works to amenage the dangerous humps in future, but a change in the categories allowed is on the cards too.

Bringing to the Nurburgring the same safety standards seen on more modern tracks is near impossible, on the ground of cost alone. Modern GT3 seem to be at the limit of what is possible at the moment.

Reminds me of when I was racing Formula Fords and Formula Renaults in England in the late eighties, BTCC Touring cars such as Ford Sierras, BMW's etc had 50 kph more top speed than us but braked a mile before we did so many times they would be completely inconsiderate or plain brainless, pass us get back on line and then slam on the brakes complete with exhaust flames shooting right over our helmets.

If I do track time I am always wary of excessively different cars, of course once in 1986 in one of my first test sessions I nudged a C Type jag into a spin at a hairpin with a light tap but no harm and the owner just smiled and said not to worry when I apologized.

So back to the Ring 24 hours: my 2 pfennig is that there will be some contact, hopefully mild due to these GPS controlled zones between cars that don't have to slow down and faster cars that pass them and suddenly do slam on the brakes...on a straight. They should just do tire wall chicanes (cf Spanish GP 1994 just after Imola tragedies and Monaco Frentzen coma) and ultimately cut down the dangerous bumps next winter as was done in the past at the Ring and as was done at Le Mans on the Hunaudieres hillock.

    Best regards,

    MS
