Ferrari corrected this in MY1996 and used thicker sheet metal in those areas. Ferrari made bolster cages for the 1995 Challenge cars. Mine never got that update whch resulted in cracks appearing on the driver's side shock mount. Classic Coach fabricated the parts and welded them in on both sides as per the 1996 Challenge manual...

Classic Coach used the same template method GS used for his door.

I've seen one 575M that had this type of door hinge/ check-strap failure that resulted in the drivers door opening too far and the door skin colliding with the trailing edge of the the front wing/fender. Not pretty as you can imagine as the repair required front wing/fender, door and rear quarter panel to be painted to get the paint right on an Argento car.

Fortunately, I didn't have any body or paint damage with this failure.

Barry- Ferrari actually learns pretty quickly. Did not take them long to provide a fix and they probably saw the problem in one of their own long term testers. Many of those are kept by the factory for 2-3 years, updated to production configuration, and sold through Italian dealers.

Thank you so much. At Christmas dinner my daughter asked me what I was going to do with this car, as I have had numerous other interesting vintage cars...and ended up selling each one of them for one reason or another. I told her that this car was a keeper and that I was taking it to the grave with me...in which she responded, "Oh good, that means it's my car" :)

She sounds like my kids. They're 7 and 9 and every now and then I overhear one trying to make a deal with the other as to how they're going to divide my keeper cars after I'm gone. Always makes me chuckle. One of them says he wants the F40, 348 Challenge, and 911 Hot Rod and the other can get the 550. And it's not that he's trying be unfair; it's that he can't bear to give up any one of those three cars. Oh well, hopefully they have at least 4 decades left to figure it out before they get any of my cars :D.

Terry, I think the 1995 F355 Challenge cars were the test beds in this case. For M.Y. 1996 they beefed up the front shock mounts.

Barry- Entirely possible. Racing definitely improves the breed. Titanium rod failures on early Prodrive 550s are one reason the 575M had steel rods.

Very pretty. My favorite Ferrari paint color, especially on a Maranello.

It's been a couple of weeks since I have updated the my Yelo Hot Rod's progress . I've been a little under the weather, so progress has been a little slow.

The first pic shows that we opened the bulb circuits inside its' housing. We soldered the brake light circuits so that all four tail lights will light up when the brakes are applied. You can never have too many brake lights :)

The second and third pics shows the finishing of the door reinforcement plate and the door check strap bracket in the jam. I plan on hanging the door this weekend. These doors are very heavy and I will probably get a couple of friends to help. The last thing I need is some sort of damage while hanging the door.

I finally decided to bite the bullet and buy a new clutch. Damn this setup is expensive! My clutch is fine, but I have a loud singing T/O bearing. I just can't see going in there and not replacing the clutch at the same time. I bought the Hill bearing to insure that I won't have to go through this again.

I received my side mirrors back from the paint shop. Second pic shows the passenger side mirror installed. What a difference freshly painted mirrors make :)

The last pic shows the steering column clam shells after I removed the sticky and refinished them.

Yes but if you wanted to the clutch disc could have been resurfaced for under 50 bucks especially if the fw and pp were ok. Thats one reason i like organic faces because they damage the steel faces less.

Carl- I know you and I discussed some other less expensive options, but I got a very good deal on a new OEM setup.
Anyone have a clutch input alignment tool I can borrow? :)

I have a couple that may or may not work because I have never done that job. I should but I'm lazy right now just finishing my major. But honestly I often just align by eye. In fact I do multi plate clutches that way if I don't have a tool to make my life easy.

Oh BTW, If you need help let me know. I do my corvette racecar seemingly more than I want. It has the same torque tube gearbox layout. I do it by myself but a second pair of hands really helps on the bulky items. So if the freeway looks clear I would not mind making the drive up from the beach.

GS- Black model paint is cheap, especially when used on a $20 model.
