Has anyone on the forum owned or had experience with a 1960's Trumpy flush deck motoryacht in the 60 to 70 foot range? As opposed to the houseboat style.

Their is very little information on the various motoryacht forums.

I've got the book, but it deals with production numbers, build history ect.

Looking at the hull speed and keel design , they look to be an ideal motoryacht for coastal work.

    Thoughts?

they are legendary. yachting magazine did a restoration project a few years back. it was nicely done. trumpy is again being built to a similar level by Turkish boat builder vicem yachts.

I am not sure how many hulls they have delivered?

Another current builder in the style is "Super Van Craft" Dutch built boats,be a good coastal motoryacht but there built in steel and i think the max length is about 55 feet.

Trumpy is a grand line of boats. Amazing wood craftsmanship. Narrow in beam, (especially by modern standards ) smooth ride in calm waters, get a quartering sea then there is a lot of rock and roll. Best appreciated from the next slip over or as a guest. Their wood construction is challenging to maintain this many years since launch. The typical cliché was that a year's maintainance was equal to or more than purchase price. (used). The insurance industry frowns on insuring wood boats of any age or condition. Best use today would be inshore in light conditions. Better suited to display / museum. Hull design is for displacement mode, speed would be to the "old" overused hull speed calculation based on the water line length.

I've seen a couple around Ft Lauderdale. Beautiful and classic but just thinking about taking care of the brightwork in salt and sun gives makes me dizzy. Looking at a couple of them on-line I'm sure just the bright work maintenance could run $50K/yr+..

Maybe a great lakes boat that is out of the water and stored 8 months per year.
