82 GTSI. Had a few small rust pin holes - primarily at the bottom of the doors. But just a few pinholes. Couple of other small pinholes - where water had obviously been sitting. Other than that - absolutely no rust.

Had a small Mexican paint shop do a damaged pick-up for me. BEAUTIFUL.

So..............got an estimate to respray........cut out every single spot (actually pinhole) of rust - and take the bottom 4 inches off the doors and replace with new metal. BTW, this had been done to the car once before. You could see THOSE welding marks when the door was cut. Water running down the inside of the door and sitting.

DID NOT take the whole car down to bare metal.
But did take several parts of the car down to bare metal. I showed pic's below last year.

I stripped the car exterior. Did not remove glass except for the little side windows.

$3,300 all done. I LOVE Mexican American craftsmanship. They just have an eye for this stuff.

BTW...had a $7k estimate from a Gringo. Remember, I did most of the prep. They did the metal removal.........welding.........and painting.

Now..the $3,300 paint job is NOT a $25k paint job.

The IMPORTANT THING for me was to STOP THE SMALL amount of rust the car had. And the paint job did that.

    So........at $3,300 I am MORE than happy. few pic's.

ok guys Im going to leave it as is. I will get everything else done, update bushings, replace CV boots, ANSA exhaust, tires etc and just enjoy it for now. As George says its not that bad......you need to be 4' to 5' away to even notice it........and at that you need to squint.

I think that's a good standard. Is it a ten foot car or a six inch car?

Don't forget the hoses and fuel lines.
