Maybe I could get them to knock $50k off the price if they don't include those awesome wheels. And no pics with the top down, what's up with that? Maybe it's broken?

I like it's style, wonder who designed it.

It looks to be restored according to an owner's personal taste (unoriginal rims, unoriginal paint color). I wonder what motivates the sale - could it really be done for profit with those custom choices. It could use some wiper arms too.

The Longchamp was designed by Tom Tjaarda who also designed the Pantera, among many other cars. This particular Longchamp was owned by a well-known member of the DeTomaso community who has been selling off all of his cars (age and health, I believe) and it has, as far as I know, spent a good part of it's life in California. The paint is not original of course, and neither are the wheels, and some other obvious components, but does it really matter? The wheels are unfortunately hideous, but if anyone here buys it and needs a set of original factory Longchamp wheels, let me know as I have a spare set.

While I like the idea of a Longchamp convertible (and the rarity) I find the mass and poor detailing of the roof too much, especially when raised. I prefer the more muscular look of the GTS variant but none were ever converted to topless by Pavesi. Longchamps are wonderful cars to drive and own. Fast, comfortable, fantastic sounding, easy and inexpensive to maintain with the added bonus of almost never seeing another one beside you at a show (or anywhere else for that matter).

    Mine is below.

    Giugiaro did.

Lovely designs, both cars. I'd love to see the Longchamp with the top folded down, especially if it retract completely below the waistline..

(so sad for the 80's/90's XJS roadsters with the folded top so hideously exposed)

    Hi Mark,

I know at least two GTS/GTSE convertibles that were ordered new from factory. One was sold to the US and the other one to the UK. The UK owner still owns his.

Jani, I stand corrected. The GTS/GTSE Spyder must indeed be a rare car as according to the De Tomaso Factory only 11 Spyders were made (not including the Pavesi-converted cars I assume?). It seems there were at least three GTS spiders, maybe more. I now have another car to add to my "wanted" list!

Interestingly, none of the GTS/GTSE cars were equipped with a manual gearbox. Only 10 regular Lonchamp were so equipped, including mine (which was later converted to GTS specs). I haven't yet come across a 5-speed Spyder, but if one exists, it would likely be the rarest of all Lonchamps.

    ???

Yeah, they're both blue, both are convertibles and it's a similar photo angle.

I know of a garnet red/creme one in CT in very nice shape. He wanted to sell it a few years ago ...

Has anyone ever done a mechanical comparison of this versus the Kyalami? Other than the engine are they the same?

The automatics were Ford C6 and the manuals were ZF 5-speeds. The rear differentials were, I believe, the same as a Jaguar XJ6.

Sounds the same as the Kyalami then which only makes sense.

    Roberto,

If that's the car I think it is, it has an interesting history. It was (I believe) originally an early (1976) coupe and was later converted to cabriolet with the larger later-style bumpers. It was apparently used by Alessandro De Tomaso's wife Isabelle Haskell. The car I'm thinking of is also a 5-speed car but I don't know if it originated that way or was converted when the roof was done. The colour is almost exactly the same as mine (which was repainted a non-factory garnet metallic). I'd love to know more about the car if you have any info.
