I have been trying to decide what to do with my new garage floor. It seems the epoxy/painting always fails when you drive on it. What is your experiences and lets see some pictures.

Industrial (non Home Depot) epoxy does not fail from tire heat. Epoxy IMO, is the best solution if you don't plan to use the garage with winter traffic. I don't suggest the high gloss because it's deadly slick when wet. Many choices out there but a pro job will cost you around $5K Marcus

After taking bids from three compnies we had a professional company install an epoxy floor in our garage 6 years ago. The finish is semi-gloss with a non-slip textured finish embedded in the epoxy. Living in Arizona we are prone to extreme weather swings as the winters can be very cold and the summers, obviously, super hot. To keep the floor looking fresh i remove all the cars and bikes once a month and dowse the floor with hose water to remove dust and dirt then sweep out the water and finish by towel drying. After six years of doing this the finish is as good as new and the install cost was $2,200.00 for a four bay garage. I will try to upload a pic.

I did mine and used top clear coat with anti slip addon which basically is silica.

Excellent finish and gloss and I don't have to worry about my mother-in-law falling on it and hurting herself (my last house did not have it and it was kinda slick when wet and I never heard the end of it).

Wanted a finished floor for awhile. I finally broke down and did it when we move last fall.

Plastic tiles were too clacky for me. Ceramic was my choice but the garage floor was way too uneven for drainage reasons.

Epoxy coating works....but you need to have the floor shot blasted and then sealed. After the epoxy you need a urethane top coat to seal and protect.

My four stall effort cost $3500. The floor is great wet with little slipping. Snow is another matter all together.

The Home Depot kit will NEVER work long term. Great for the basement though ;)

When I lived just outside Detroit, I had a 1 1/2 car garage. I finished the floor with an epoxy kit from Home Depot (sorry don't remember the brand - it's been 13 years or so). I did it myself, and it was pretty easy. Preparing the floor and cleaning it is the most important step. It gets pretty cold up there as well as hot and humid and never had any problems with the floor. Got daily use for 5 years without any issues. It does get slick when wet though.

Now, I live in the southwest, and it doesn't freeze that much, but it is hot hot hot! Have a 2 car garage that I finished the floor with the rust-oleum garage epoxy kit from Lowes. Once again did it myself, and it looks nice. This time I put those little colored chips in it, and coated it. Still gets a bit slick when wet - but we don't have a lot of rain here usually. It's been 3 years, and it looks really nice. Once again, preparing the floor is important. Don't know if professionally installed epoxy floor coatings work better, but I am a do it myself kind of guy, so can't attest to that.

Now, I do want to put the gridded locking plastic floor on top of the epoxy floor where the cars are. I have a step up where I have a work bench and such that will stay epoxy. I like the charcoal tiles and can put yellow tiles to form a box around the car. They have that around a corvette at the luggage claim in Phoenix airport that looks sharp.

Watson, I like the TV and the cabinets. What brand are the cabinets?

I did epoxy (Anthrazit) myself, perfect, and reasonable price. Concrete floor was new, so it was my first job to finish my 2 car garage. Because of the children it's now a 1 car garage....

Some great garages there, where do you guys keep the kids bikes and other garage stuff??? lol...

I did the Home Depot kit at my last house, it was perfect after 1.5 yrs until I moved (I know not long)...did it again at my current house, one year and have a few small spots of flaking but not bad, especially for $2-4k savings!

Watson - that floor is frickin' awesome. I used snap together tiles by racetrack and it took me almost 4 hours to get it right but they are a huge improvement over peeling paint.

I studied cabinets until I was blue in the face. Unfortunately I obsess about stuff like this....

The tool chests are Craftsman Pro series. I like them a lot.

The base cabinets under the work surface and the hanging wall ones are Husky right out of Home Depot. OK...but not fantastic.

The tall cabinets are Husky fully welded and need to be ordered from Home Depot. WAY better than the stocked assy required versions and worth the wait.

I recently redid my garage over the summer....

It was your basic bare bones garage when I started...
untreated concrete floors... exposed brick lower walls, cracked drywall, etc.

I went through the same thought process as many here...
Do I do the work myself? What floor do I go with? Do I go with Tile or Epoxy? if so.. which? etc...

I finally decided to go with a basic high gloss grey epoxy that I could do myself.
So, I cleaned out the garage... acid etched the concrete floor. Scrubbed it down and power washed it... repeat. Wait for it to dry, and then lay the epoxy down.

Honestly, it came out great for something that cost me under $100 and some elbow grease. I could have gone a step further and added a 3rd or 4th coat but I didnt feel the need to. So far, the epoxy has held up extremely well and has not peeled off or worn at all.

I would love to do this to my garage but the thought of having to clean everything out of my garage is just too overwhelming. I will settle for concrete floor, and mopping it after every major job.

I've looked at tall cabinets and they are either cheap in price and quality, or ridiculously expensive. I just want something that looks good, will last, and holds stuff. I had settled on the Kobolt cabinets from Lowes, but I'll look at the Husky welded cabinets from Home Depot - I'll look on their web site. I just need a 48" and a 30" cabinet 72" high or so. Thanks for the info.

So, I looked on the HD website, and they have the cabinets listed, but they say available in stores. They also don't say whether or not they are welded - I am guessing they are not welded if I can buy them in the store. Do I have to go to the store to special order them?
