I like the color.....TRX tires are expensive. However, it's your car so do as you like! I prefer the look of the original wheels. Both my Mondials have original wheels.

    Andrew,
If you are looking to restore her back to TRX, just be sure that your TRX needs to be staggered on your 3.2, fronts are smaller than rears. Note, the QV cars with TRX uses the same size for all four wheels so don't think this would be the same for your car.

    TRX Metric wheels:
    Mondial 8/QV
180 TR 390 with Michelin TRX 240/55 VR 390 Tubeless for front & rears (spare is same size)

    Mondial 3.2
    Spare 160 TR 390 Michelin 220/55 VR 390
    Front 160 TR 390 Michelin 220/55 VR 390
    Rear 180 TR 390 Michelin 240/55 VR 390

    Enjoy your new car!
    Cheers

I think this is a case where the manual is wrong. When I went back to unpack the wheels the seller sent me I found three 165tr390 and 1 180tr390 (Rear) I just bought another 180tr390 from FerrParts (THanks Russ)

A few others with 3.2's running trx's PM'd me and their fronts and spares are all 165tr390. Russ at FerrParts confirmed this as well.

BTW my owners manual says 160tr390 as does Keith Bluemel's "Original Ferrari V8" book on my shelf.

Hmm... can you upload some photos of those 165s? Do they look like Mondial wheels?

On page 78 of Bluemel's book, for the Mondial, it clearly states 180 mm for both front and rear.

Thanks for clarifying this issue, it wouldn't be the first time there is a misprint in the manual, some of the relays are wrong as well in the OM. However, the 84 308 manual listed the 165TR 390 wheel. I just hope folks are not interchanging (308, 328, mondialQV, Mondial 3.2) TRX wheels and ignoring specs was my point. Probably wouldn't hurt to call the Ferrari dealer and ask again, may get another answer ;) My 88 came with 16" so the TRX world is like Area 51 to me, alien technology.

    Baffling for sure!

I can't imagine 308 wheels on a Mondial but people have done all sorts of things to [cheaply] get around the TRXs.

For example, one with 328 wheels on another thread you posted.

Hello Andrew. Congrats on the car, looks great.

Regarding the grab handle, I broke my passenger side one (right on the edge of the horizontal bar portion where one would grab, if that makes sense). I think your best bet would be to find someone who is parting out a car on ebay or one of the 'breakers' in the UK or Europe. I checked all of the usual suppliers and came up with nothing, and an intense couple of nights searching the web for similar period Italian cars turned up no substitutes. (This was a couple of years ago.) Mine has a very clean break, and I think I can drill it, pin it, and apply some adhesive for a strong joint that won't show.

Also a data point: 165TR390 came with my '83 QV for the fronts. I run 348 wheels on it with the metrics held in reserve.

Mine's been painted over previously so the size isn't shown. However, by looking up the part number, this from another thread:

So much for reference books. When in doubt... just look at the car instead. :)

Agree completely with this. I wonder how many have actually driven on TRX's, I mean really driven! I have had the pleasure or displeasure of pushing an Alpina with XWX tires ages ago, they were new, not old. handling was OK but nowhere near what radials can provide now. For garage/trailer queens and show cars, sure why not. But for drivers, I would rather use current tire tech and be able to change tires as they wear and age without having to rob a bank or wait for supply.

Coker bought the molds, how much input and technology does Michelin have in these tires now?

Fairly sure our sponsors at Longstone have confirmed this to be myth or at the very least their genuine historic Michelin TRX & XWX come from Michelin in France with relatively current production dates

Hi Andrew, As another new Mondial owner, I'm excited to get our car shipped from Miam to us here in Tacoma, WA. How was your experience with Intercity? How far did you have to move the car? From your delivery pic, it was in a closed trailer? Could you provide me a name or contact at Intercity?
    Thanks, Bob.

    Hello,
I have had the same problematic years ago with my Euro 3.2QV. Not exactly the same, because it was equiped with original wheels. I did not want to buy new TRX tires, but prefer to choose new tires in actual market. After days of wondering, I decided to buy (to John from the Fchat community) 4 wheels from a mondial T. Their shape is "original mondial" , but they are dimensioned in todays tires inches. So I could choose and buy new adapted tires and I am very happy.
