I assume that it was lost in an accident. In the early 1980s, a Dr. Rainer Grossman of what was then West Germany was selling off pieces of the car through the Ferrari Market Letter - the engine and gearbox in 1981, and then the hardtop in 1982. He described the hardtop as being "salvaged from" 2941 GT.

Thanks for the info. Interesting case now that a PF cab S2 is worth 1.5m+. Would it be doable to have a body made and if yes, how would it be viewed compared to this california body?

I would have to wonder what the S2 running gear does to the value of the replica?

I would have to think it is valued significantly higher due to the ability to return it to a S2.

My feeling is that this cars time has come to be returned to its original form.

Hopefully with the values of GTE's rising it wont be long till they are in the same spotlight.

These are the rebodies I tend to appreciate, oddly enough. Back when this car was being parted-out, the cost-effectiveness of fixing a thoroughly rusted or accident damaged body just wasn't there (and let's admit it, these things RUSTED!). This, however "incorrect", was a means of breathing life into components that had simply seen better years...

Whatever the case and with all judgements aside, it's very cool to see it being enjoyed by a couple of girls on a lovely Paris day in Spring.
