Sounds like we have a winner!
Here is one from Cavallino in January at the Breakers. Unfortunately no Royalty was available..I guess I should have stopped Mr. Trump on Sunday at Mar-a-largo but I was too busy looking at the cars!
Found out we were going to have 12 hours at the dock in Felixstowe, UK.... this time during daylight.... then due to delays of a ship at our berth, we couldn't dock until 5pm... I had pre-paid for a rental car and we got to Avis as they closed. Employee was kind enough to wait and then tell me I was nuts to try this mission.... Determined, we got the car and with three crew members, we set off on the 190 mile 3.5 hour road trip thru the English countryside - and on the M25 at the end of rush hour traffic.... right hand drive manual car...driving on the other side of the road.... racing the last of the daylight .... you get the scenario... plenty of roundabouts.... Got to the site at 10:00pm, promptly blew out a tire on a dirt road and found out that there are no lights, there is now a fence, CCTV, and guards surrounding the stones..... (the new Visitor's Center entrance was blocked off - we improvised by using the dirt road..) A security guard told us we needed to leave, but I told him I needed to take some photos. He laughed - "in the dark ? are you kidding?" 'er no.....' backed the car up so the headlights illuminated the sign and...... I got the photo !! We then limped back 190 miles on the skinny spare tire at 55mph, got to my ship at 3:30 am and sailed for Germany at 4am.... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Got off the ship and decided I needed a little drive . so after going to a Jimmy Buffett concert, I flew to Florida where my sister and I left Cocoa, Fl and headed to Cool, CA . took a couple of photos along the way .3800 miles in just over 6 days. Tried to out do Sledge's monkey photo with the bison, but he just gave me the look that said 'no' . Wow, Capt, you really covered some territory -- Jimmy still performs? Amazing! That bison would have been great --
Found this pic in different topic but should also be posted here, I think... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wow Keith, you travel around just like us, Europe, Africa, the Islands.... Is the privilege to own a FOG hat (and take nice pictures) only for residents of (northern) California/member FOG? Or as a visitor (big discussions going on here at home to come over again in 2015) is it also possible to receive a official FOG hat? Who is the distributor? Joe?
such a violation of the unspoken (and unmentionable) FOG hat rules! Not sure, but given you are out of the area, and that we grandfathered you in due to your remote location and successful effort made to attend dinner in carmel, we might be able to make an exception and discard all standing hat regulations from the FOG hat ownership handbook, page 6; section 44, rule #3a -- the only catch is you'd have to cover the courier service I'll take it up with the board of directors and see if they will bend
Ifeth the board decreeth, i believith that i can be said courier and ambassador of good will as my jobeth requireth i taketh my good vessel far across the sea to the land of Fred..... I can call upon my men to serveth and protecteth the hat of FOG !!
Thank you for your explanation and hope an exception can be made by the board . I pledge and promise to post only pictures without comments. Please let me know what the costs are. If board of directors approve I will meet you at time and place (Rotterdam/Antwerp?) in F-style to honor the FOG hat transfer
