Gordon Gekko nearly got it right #03050 back into her original factory ordered spec of Verde Germoglio 20-G-465 with the unusual combination of Nero VM8500 leather with red cloth inserts. It's taken just under 2 years to complete and included a full bare metal strip down with a lot of metal work required to fix years of bodge up repairs, a full engine strip down and rebuild, full mechanical overhaul and a complete retrim. It's my third 246 restoration and was a lot of fun (and frustration) tracking down missing parts. Many thanks to Paul and Rob Calisi who helped me out with various items, Matthias for encouraging me to stick with the red cloth inserts and to TonyL for providing a few unobtanium items and going above and beyond by plating some of them for me. I managed to trace the car's first owner and have kept him updated on the progress of the restoration. I hope to be able to meet him at some point this summer and re-unite him with the car. A few comparison shots of the condition of the car when I bought it. It had been poorly stored for 2 years in a damp storage facility and had lived the 5 years prior to that outdoors next to a sea water loch in Scotland so was not in tip top condition to put it mildly. Excellent result and good timing for coming driving season. I love the color. Congratulation! Regards Peter
Damp in Scotland, how can that be? (tongue firmly in cheek) You rescued this nicely. Congrats on another fine Dino in your growing stable. Will you bring one to Monterey in Aug 2015 when Ferrari is the featured marque?
I think that has to be the best color for a Dino, and the red cloth seats are incredible. Your picture with your garden/lawn in the background would make a nice poster.
We are all proud for you Iain, stunning job. Restoring these cars is no easy task and your knowledge of all things Dino has inspired me too. Now put away the orbital polisher for goodness sake it shines to much I need you to share a secret....... how come your driveway weed free!!!!!!
Beautiful restoration, but I'm trying to wrap my head around how the car could have ever been sold new with the red terry inserts and the verde exterior together. One or the other, sure, but both? The swinging early '70s...
I admit it sounds mad but it just works when you see it in person. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Iain, gorgeous color, and with the red seats, absolutely delightful. It is a guaranteed stunner! Regards, Alberto
A beautiful result after all that time and effort for your green Dino now. Thank you for saving this RHD Dino and sharing it here. CH
With such a fabulous restoration job, I have to ask why you kept that antenna on the roof? Surely, it couldn't have been original from the factory.
I too wouldn't have thought those colours would have worked, but it looks fabulous in your photos! Congratulations! Jez
Roof mounted aerials were quite common on UK Dinos Ron and were fitted by Maranello Concessionaires as an option. I prefer it to having a wing mounted aerial.
This is the best dino I have ever seen, the attension to detail on the restoration is amazing. I was fortunate to see this car a couple of times during the process and when it was finished. It is stunning.
awesome colour and job on the recreation. You should be proud. I don't think we got many if any of those originally down here...pity. Emmanuel
Yup! not only of the finished product but the motivation and, ability to see it through! A beautiful car!
